AR-687 LEARNING FROM THE SOUTH
Cultural Landscapes and Transnational Dialogues on Urbanization in Transition
| | The International PhD Seminar Learning from the South: Cultural Landscapes and Transnational Dialogues on Urbanization in Transition, organised by Habitat Research Center (HRC, ENAC), in partnership with the Urban and regional planning community (CEAT, ENAC) and the Heritage, Anthropology and Technologies (HAT, CDH), explores how various global urban and cultural landscapes address socio-ecological transitions. By acknowledging the relational nature of cultural landscapes, designers are reminded that every technical choice is also an ethical and political act — one that shapes not only spatial configurations but also the ways in which we relate to one another and to the Earth. The seminar will take place on June 10-11, 2025 in Foyer SG. Interested EDAR PhD students should submit a 300-word abstract by May 2, 2025, to anna.dealmeidasantos@epfl.ch. For detailed information, please refer to the EDAR Course Book: link. | | |
AR-808 MOVEMENT MATTERS
Exploring Transitions in Architecture Research
| | |
The ETHZ-EPFL Summer school Movement Matters: Exploring Transitions in Architecture Research, co-organised by the EDAR PhD student Akshar Gajjar (THEMA) and the PhD students at ETHZ Debasish Borah and Jacopo Zani, explores movement in architecture through identity, materials, and environmental flows. It examines migration, technology, and non-human elements in placemaking. The Summer school will take place on June 23-27, 2025, at Passo del San Gottardo, Airolo. EDAR PhD students can apply for participation at the link by April 13, 2025. For detailed information, please refer to the Summer school's website: link and EDAR Course Book: link.

Infrastructures in material or immaterial sense increasingly shape the expression and nature of heritage, from new forms of digitalization, sustainability techniques and bureaucratization to changing politics, and investment practices. This workshop offers a space for rethinking the relationships between heritage and infrastructure(s) from international to local scales. Abstracts should be submitted to florence.graezerbideau@epfl.ch and peter.larsen@unige.ch by April 18, 2025. For detailed information, please visit the link. | | Université de Liège announces the call for participation in the doctoral seminar entitled Exploring the Periphery: Towards a Project for Suburbia, which will be held at the Faculty of Architecture of Liège, Belgium, on June 11, 2025. As an “observatory of the periphery”, the seminar seeks for contributions capable of interacting with projects, methods and descriptions of peripheral spaces, their current or future transformative trajectories, ongoing changes and shift in the production of space. Abstracts up to 1,000 words are to be submitted to guillaume.vanneste@uliege.be by April 22, 2025. Manuscripts in English or French should be submitted via the link by April 30, 2025. For detailed information, please visit the link. | | Materia Arquitectura journal announces a call for papers for its new issue entitled Press Play. The issue seeks to explore the role of design in digital environments within an era of both scarcity and excess, placelessness and embeddedness, human and non-human agency—through the lens of interactive media. It invites researchers, designers, and scholars to contribute articles that critically examine the effects, limitations, and promises of these media as we navigate the intersection of digital immersion, environmental responsibility, and architectural innovation. Articles of 1,500 words or visual explorations should be submitted to materia.arquitectura@uss.cl by May 5, 2025.
