Congratulations to thyssenkrupp and Storey County on the Grand Opening of the new Service Center at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center. thyssenkrupp is a global supplier in the cement and mining industry. They looked at multiple locations before choosing the Silver State. They will be specializing in machining, overhauling and fabricating equipment parts at their new facility.
Workforce Development Updates
In 2022, the FIRST community will celebrate the next generation of innovators who will change the future during the FIRST LEGO League Global Innovation Award presented by Qualcomm. The award is open to participating FIRST LEGO League teams in more than 100 countries. Mentoring is a way for employers to foster employee and organizational growth by pairing less experienced workers with colleagues who have expertise in a specific area. The relationships can be used to provide career guidance, broaden networking opportunities, or break down organizational silos. Learn about setting up a program at your company that incorporates this thoughtful approach.
 
The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) is transitioning most of its current career and technical education (CTE) programs of study from a 3-year course sequence to a 2-year course sequence to increase access and opportunity for students to participate in CTE. As part of the process to revise standards for each program of study, NDE is relying on Nevada’s business and industry community to provide feedback through criticality surveys on what standards and skillsets should be taught in each program. Please complete the survey(s) for the programs of study that are aligned with your organization.
 
Thursday, February 24th, is National Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. This year, Envirolution is excited to partner with Tesla and the University of Nevada, to bring two different events to middle school students throughout the country. TMCC is looking for Community Mentors! TMCC’s Nevada Promise Scholarship helps youth in our community access higher education without the barriers associated with cost. Nevada Promise is also a mentorship program whereby Nevada Promise candidates are matched with a mentor who meets with them once per semester until community college graduation. The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requires food processors to have a trained “Preventive Controls Qualified Individual” (PCQI) who has completed a specialized training course such as the one developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA). The Nevada Speed Test is counting on fellow Nevadans to provide connectivity information by logging on to NevadaSpeedTest.org which measures internet speeds. By analyzing home and business connectivity, strategies can be identified, and funding solutions pursued that improve regional broadband infrastructure.
