On February 13th, we hosted our annual State of the Economy in Northern Nevada. More than 1,500 regional business and community leaders attended our annual “State of the Economy in Northern Nevada” Economic Update Luncheon. We highlighted our region’s progress over the past years, with an overview of new companies, job growth, and opportunities to expect in the year ahead. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

Company Announcements:

Azulene Labs develops ultra-accurate software for chemistry and material science, demonstrating software simulation outcomes for their customers. They will be occupying a 6,970 SQ FT facility in Carson City. The company plans on hiring 10 new employees in the next 18 months at $48.00 per hour. 

In Other News:

Twelve new qualified leads entered the pipeline, and the Business Development team hosted sixteen site visits for the month of January. 


EDAWN hosted two extensive site visits, one with Kymera International and one with a non-disclosed prospect. Executives and board members from Kymera International and partnering equity firms flew into Reno as the Business Development team introduced them to other advanced manufacturers, and various stakeholders from the Northern Nevadan community.  


The success of these introductions have advanced project plans and both prospects are expected to name Nevada as a finalist state.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

If so, you can take advantage of the Incumbent Worker Training Grant funded by the Department Of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR.) ENTREPRENEURIAL UPDATES

Reno Startup Week 2025 will take place Sept 29 - Oct 3. We have a new “headquarters” location this year at Reno Experience District (RED), allowing us to host multiple sessions throughout the daytime within their beautiful campus. Back by popular demand will be another party on RED’s Atwood rooftop, and we’ll end the week with a fun crossover event with OffBeat Music Festival on Thursday night - think SXSW vibes, blending tech, culture, and music into an unforgettable evening. We hosted our first Elevate Reno event of the year in February with three early-stage startups pitching. Positron, a rising force in AI inference technology for artificial intelligence computing, has secured $23.5 million in funding, including from Nevada-based VC firm Flume Ventures. Positron has achieved rapid deployment by utilizing customized FPGA chips for AI inference, which are now shipping and in use by several U.S. and European customers. Positron’s first-generation Atlas systems are already demonstrating 3.5x performance-per-dollar gains over Nvidia’s H100, while consuming significantly less power. Positron is leading the way in turning Northern NV into a global AI hub, and we’re looking forward to seeing them grow in our region. Read more about it here.

The City of Reno, in partnership with the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, is offering Love Your Block mini grants to support neighborhood improvement projects in Ward 3. Applications are open from February 14 to March 22, with selected recipients notified by April 22. Grants can fund small home repairs, clean-ups, public art, and more.
