UNR targeted for $21 million technological innovation grant

EDAWN, with the help of our sponsors, Dermody Properties and United Construction Company, hosted the 7th Annual Brokers & Bogeys event at Grizzly Ranch Golf Club. This event provides us the opportunity to thank and show appreciation for our Northern Nevada industrial colleagues that help us to identify, attract and land valuable investments in the industrial, commercial, and residential markets. These partnerships continue to be critical in landing new business opportunities for the region.

Fracht Group is an international freight forwarder and industry leader in comprehensive logistic solutions. Their facility in Sparks includes a plan to add up to 30 new positions. They are expanding their benefits to their warehousing customers by pursuing a Foreign Trade Zone designation via assistance through EDAWN and our consultant, Legacy Supply Chain.

EDAWN's Business Development team completed 9 site visits and 4 new leads for the month of June. The team is also pleased to announce 1 new project that has expanded into our market


The Business Development team is pleased to report a continued robust pipeline of projects: EV battery manufacturing and storage, advanced manufacturing, and data centers. This pipeline represents significant potential for industrial projects running through 2025.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

The U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge invests in high-quality, locally led workforce systems. Nevadaworks, our local Workforce Board, is among 32 entities funded to expand career opportunities and develop a skilled workforce. They want to hear from you about the jobs and skillsets needed in Technology, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Healthcare. The Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) offers multiple grants to encourage the creation of lasting partnerships between industry and workforce training providers including the Stem Workforce Challenge Grant. For more information or to apply go here: STEM Workforce Challenge Grant Request for Applications. The Stem Talent Pipeline grant is designed to support collaboration between education, STEM based business and or  business associations.  STEM Workforce Talent Pipeline Grant Request for Applications. ENTREPRENEURIAL UPDATES

Thanks to everyone who attended Launch Reno @ Engine 8 Urban Winery in Sparks. Special appreciation to Matt Mireles for demonstrating TalkTastic, which was truly inspiring. TalkTastic is a AI communication tool designed to enhance team collaboration and productivity. Looking forward to seeing everyone again at Launch Reno in August. 

The University of Nevada, Reno Innevation Center has launched Free Founder Fridays, offering startup founders free access to its collaborative workspace every Friday. Non-members can enjoy amenities like co-working spaces, coffee, parking, internet, private phone booths, and Makerspace access for product development. The Innevation Center supports Nevada's economic growth by fostering innovation.

PARTNER UPDATES

The University of Nevada, Reno is hosting a week-long summer camp introducing youth to the inspiring world of science, robotics and coding for children age 5-8 years with two sessions planned soon. For more information email k12robotics@unr.edu.

The Lewis Group of Companies has been developing in Reno-Sparks for more than 50 years. The company’s first development in the City of Sparks dates back to 1972. With the addition of 306 apartment homes under construction at Homecoming at Kiley Ranch in Sparks, Lewis Apartment Communities Northern Nevada portfolio has grown to five properties and 1,560 luxury apartments.
