ENTREPRENEURIAL UPDATES

Applications are now open for the 2025 Startup World Cup Reno Regional Qualifier, hosted by EDAWN and Pegasus Tech Ventures. This premier global pitch competition offers founders the chance to win a $1 million investment at the Grand Finale in San Francisco. The Reno winner will receive local prizes and a spotlight on a global stage. If you know a high-growth startup with big ambitions, now’s the time—encourage them to apply today!

We’ve made the decision to postpone the inaugural Poker Tournament Fundraiser until spring. While we were excited to bring the community together this summer, ticket sales were impacted by seasonal travel and competing events. Postponing allows us to focus our full attention on delivering an incredible Reno Startup Week this fall. We’re looking forward to a high-energy tournament next year and will share updated details as soon as they’re available.

The Entrepreneurial Development team and the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) recently hosted Venture on the Green at the Barracuda Golf Championship, a new initiative and exclusive gathering of startup investors. The event made space for meaningful conversations and new connections between emerging and active investors in our region and proved to be a powerful platform for deepening relationships and expanding our network. Special thanks to Keenan Polan and Andrea Quiruz with Barracuda for helping bring this impactful event to life!

MAJOR INVESTOR OF THE MONTH

It’s a lot more than buses – while the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County has seen nearly 36 consecutive months of ridership growth, as the designated metropolitan planning organization for the citizens of Reno, Sparks, and unincorporated areas of Washoe County, the call to serve is much larger.

“This is our busiest construction season to date,” RTC Executive Director Bill Thomas said. “In addition to major projects like the Arlington Avenue Bridges and Sparks Boulevard, our team is hard at work maintaining regional roads and delivering safety improvements.”

Whether it’s multimodal access via the Biggest Little Bike Network, improved geometry for the Veteran’s Parkway Roundabout, or safety along the Sixth Street Corridor – RTC is working to improve conditions for all road users.

“Locals get to see the results of our work every day,” RTC Public Information Officer Josh MacEachern said. “Every time you see an RTC bus, ACCESS bus, or drive across a newly constructed corridor like Oddie Wells, you can appreciate the work this team puts into our community.”

For more information about current and future RTC projects visit www.RTCWashoe.com.
