BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

The Business Development team is pleased to announce 27 new job announcements for October, an outcome of three significant projects commencing with more than $320 Million in capital expenditures dedicated to new real estate, build-to-suit and/or equipment purchases.  


The team has announced more than 1,400 jobs for the quarter exceeding the annual target of 1,200 jobs. The team announced almost $3 Billion in new capital expenditures for the quarter exceeding the annual target of $500 Million. Data Center Campus Developments and Lyten’s Battery Gigafactory tend towards high capital expenditures, and establish new, competitive high-skilled, high-wage positions. 

Vantage Data Center is making a second announcement this year. The company is an industry leader, providing innovative, enterprise data center facilities offering scale, speed-to-market, efficiencies, and sustainability models for their fortune 100 customers. They are expanding by establishing a new 474,500 SQ FT build-to-suit in the TRI-Center and adding 10 new high-skilled positions averaging at least $120,000 in annual salaries reported. Their capital expenditures will be exceed $254 million. 

Urban Rag Company LLC is a vintage style 

apparel source for boutique and online businesses, expanding its footprint of operations. Their North American point of business is Los Angeles. Reno’s new distribution center will expand efficiencies for business to business operations in women's shoes, clothing and accessories. The company is initially 

occupying 10,000 SQ FT of space on Parr Blvd, adding 5 new employees with an average wage of $25 per hour committing $2 million in capital expenditures. 

Oppidan is a national property development firm expanding IT Infrastructure into Northern Nevada. Their new operations will reside on Virginia Street in Reno. The facility build-out will be over 60,000 SQ FT. They will employ 12 new high-skilled positions averaging $66,000 plus benefits in annual salaries. The project is estimating $65 million in new capital expenditures.

The Business Development team hosted 12 site visits for the month and responded to 14 new, qualified leads.


At least ten potential projects active in the pipeline have cited locations in Northern Nevada, announcing our region as a finalist community, therefore, more announcements are forthcoming.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

Congratulations to Nevadaworks who has moved into the third phase of the GJNN grant with students enrolled in training programs in technology, manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics. Enrolling candidates into industry programs based on feedback from partner companies, is a major priority, followed by placement to employers looking to fill open positions in these in-demand industries. Additional programs include Incumbent Worker Training, and an internship and apprenticeship program that will roll out at the beginning of 2025. A Workforce Innovations for a New Nevada (WINN) application for Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Lithium Loop Apprenticeship program recently received approval from the GOED board totaling approximately $1,000,000. The program will address critical workforce needs in Nevada’s advanced manufacturing sector and will enable TMCC to increase its capacity to offer a four-week, 11 credit course designed to meet high-demand job requirements in Northern Nevada’s Lithium Loop ecosystem.

BUSINESS RETENTION & EXPANSION UPDATES

The Business Retention Team at EDAWN conducted 32 visits visits in October. 164 non-assisted jobs will be added for the month, with a forecast of 60 additional jobs to be added next year.

ENTREPRENEURIAL UPDATES

Reno hosted its first Pitch Mayhem finale during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Pitch Mayhem is a tournament-style pitch competition – think Shark Tank meets March Madness – where promising startups compete to win prizes and introductions to investors, mentors, and partners. Reno hosted the final three companies (Wolfberry LLC, Gargoyle Systems, and Transition) from across the United States and crowned Transition the winner. Transition is a workforce platform streamlining career readiness for community colleges and trade schools. Congratulations, Transition!  

Elevate Reno, our quarterly pitch event, will take place on Thursday, December 5th at 5:00pm at The Brewer’s Cabinet. We’ve teamed up with Launch Reno, our monthly networking social, to host this exciting event, giving entrepreneurs a platform to practice their pitches in a supportive, fun, and collaborative environment. Frontier Airlines is bringing nonstop service back to Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) starting March 7, 2025. Travelers can enjoy ultra-low fares on flights to Denver International Airport (DEN) and Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS), with both routes operating three times weekly. In partnership with Nevada Athletics, EDAWN has donated Wolf Pack flags to all Washoe County School District schools as part of the "Nevada’s College Town" initiative. This effort celebrates Wolf Pack Fridays, fosters school pride, and strengthens the connection between the University and the community. The initiative aims to inspire students toward higher education while showcasing the region's commitment to academic excellence and community spirit. Residents and local businesses are encouraged to display their support by wearing silver and blue every Friday.
