September 20th - International Culinary Students to City Market
EDGE culinary arts students visited the City Market in downtown Kansas City. During our visit to the City Market we picked up spices, vegetables and other fresh ingredients from a variety of shops and bakeries. Local Pig gave the students an amazing demonstration on how they break down chickens and students were able to practice this technique with guidance by a professional. EDGE wants to send a big thank you to Local Pig and Pigwich for their outstanding hospitality and providing a unique real work opportunity for our students.

October 10th - Life Below Water: KC Zoo and Aquarium
EDGE had a "Leave to Learn Day," as we took an adventure to the Kansas City Zoo. Students are currently working on academic research projects focused on the United Nations sustainability goal of "Life Under Water", many of which include finding solutions to helping keep marine ecosystems safe and healthy. We had some time to explore the zoo at large but a majority of our time was spent in the new 650,000 gallon aquarium that just opened about a month ago. Students looked for specific connections to their Life Under Water projects. Thank you to the Kansas City Zoo for their school field trip program which allows students in Clay and Jackson Counties to attend the zoo for free on pre planned field trips. We took over 80 students to the zoo for no entrance fee. It was a beautiful day to explore the zoo and gain some hands on knowledge for our projects.
