Deborah and Bob Wycoff hosted a wonderful Legacy Society thank you event at their lovely Pasadena home Sunday last for those who have, or who are interested in learning more about, remembering the Church in their Estate planning. See glad photos below!

This coming Sunday we will incorporate three new Acolytes into the Acolyte Corp; Cole Stadtler, Mary-Kate Seley and James Dixon. We anticipate their formation and service in fresh duties.

The 75th anniversary pilgrimage to Anglican sites, and to sites associated with St. Edmund is also below. November is decision month, so if you would like to join the travel group, contact Canon Smythe, Sylvia Smythe or the parish office promptly.

Congrats to Nathan Tyler and Eisha Matsubara who wed in St. Edmund's Chapel this past Saturday!

Christ be in you,
GFW+

We offer condolence to Vestry Member Jim Balbin and the Balbin Family on the passing of Jim's mother, Blanca Balbin; and parish secretary Isabel Roa on the passing of her grandmother Isabel Vargas. May they rest in peace and rise in glory.

If you are interested in reading the Rector's article in the Religion section of the San Marino Tribune, it may be found on page A-10 of the pdf version HERE.

Why you should study religion HERE.

I mentioned a SCAM
by phone in last week's Edmund's Notes (" the Grandparent SCAM"), and a parishioner has since alerted me to fraudulent calls received "from the IRS". The IRS never contacts people by phone, as a legitimate IRS site repeats HERE

Refuse any incoming phone calls unless caller ID identifies the caller. This applies to cell phones as well as land lines.

Never
conduct financial transactions by phone unless you have initiated the transaction. Do not donate to charitable organizations or political parties
by phone

Should you answer a phone call solicitation, ask to be removed from the callers list, and then  disconnect. Do not return calls to
"phishing messages" left in your voice mail...this informs scammers that they have a prospect on the other end of a robo-call.

Caution applies also to incoming e-mail, which may masquerade as a friend or relative in distress, a trusted bank (complete with graphics) or service (inclusive of your internet provider) asking you to perform a function as simple as "click." Delete. Do not open. Be suspicious and be vigilant.
Think SCAM in relation to most unsolicited contact. Think "SCAM and DANGER" if you are connected through a dating site.

The appointed lessons for next Sunday, November 15th, (Track Two) may be found HERE.

LESSONS & CAROLS
7:30pm Advent Two, December 6th

This Second Sunday of Advent, December 6th the Parish will offer our annual Liturgy of Lessons and Carols at 7:30 in the evening.

The Choir, joined by guests from the LA Opera Chorus, will perform the music of Christiansen, Nygard, Vaughan-Williams, Helvey, Guilmant, Manz and Culloton as the Scriptures shaping the Advent Season sound forth in punctuated readings.

Choirmaster Robert Hovencamp will lead the Choir, together with St. Edmund's Aeolian-Skinner/Rosales pipe organ. The Liturgy includes Advent hymns and anthems sung by congregation and Choir.

A festive reception follows the Liturgy in the Parish Hall. Bring your friends and share the Word!
HOMESTAY FROM HUNGARY?

Many of you will remember parishioner Attila Meszaros who returned to his native Hungary some years ago, where he lives with his wife and young son.

Attila's thirteen year old cousin Patrick would like to spend a month or so in the U.S. next summer to improve his English skills and experience American culture.

His family is well-off and would expect to cover all pertinent expense. If you might be interested in hosting this youth from Hungary, view his presentation video HERE and contact the Rector for any desired follow-up.
OLD PHOTOS SOUGHT!

Do you have any old photos of St. Edmund's from years past? 1940s and each decade thereafter are what we hope to find. We are searching for photos of families, church events and milestones, Christmas plays and current parishioners at younger ages. Dave Ford is collecting photos to be used in publications during our 75
th anniversary year in 2016.

Photos may be scanned and emailed to Dave or he can take originals to scan and return to you. Please send them with your name and any captions you can. Dave can be reached at  [email protected]

or (626) 826-7567. Thank you!
MOM'S IN TRANSITION GROUP

women_many_chatting.jpg
Have you begun to wonder what life will be like without kids at home?  Or with kids at home who are adults already?

We are initiating a monthly meeting for moms to explore the challenges and freedoms inherent in our lives as parents of emerging adults and to support each other as we define what this phase might look like for each of us. The group is intended to focus more on our own transitioning lives than on our childrens' transitioning lives as they were when our children were younger.

Our initial meeting is in November, and then we would meet monthly January through June.  If you are a mom beginning--or already in the middle of--transitioning to parenting emerging adults and would like to share the journey with other moms in transition, please join us for the introductory meeting on Tuesday, November 10,  6:30pm in the Cowan Room at St. Edmund's.  If you have any questions, please contact Gail Rolfe at
or by phone at 626-200-0042.
