Community Mission Appeal

September 15 and 22 (your congregation's choice) is Community Mission Appeal Sunday. The Community Mission Appeal (CMA) was established in order to help parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana reach out to their neighbors who are most in need. Funds for the CMA are raised through parish appeals throughout the Diocese, as well as individual contributions. The amount to be distributed will depend upon the success of those efforts. Last year, we were able to award $20,000 to these ministries.

You may place checks payable to the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana in the regular collection. Be sure to write "Community Mission Appeal" or "CMA" on the memo line. Donations may also be made online at www.edola.org/cma or mailed to the following address:

Clergy Transitions

The Rev. Canon Bill Ziegenfuss died on August 18 at the age of 86. He served for decades as a priest and organist at Christ Church Cathedral and as an organist at Trinity Episcopal School's chapel services and at  St. Andrew's, New Orleans.  A Requiem Mass will take place on Friday, September 6 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans followed by interment in the Cathedral Columbarium and reception in Stuart Hall.

The Rev. Don Brown  has retired as priest-in-charge of St. Augustine's, Baton Rouge, effective July 31, 2019. He and his wife have moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

The Rev. Elaine Clements stepped down as diocesan disaster coordinator effective May 2019. She is now a non-parochial deacon living in Alabama.

The Rev. Canon John Kellogg has been named the diocesan disaster coordinator and Deacon Jay Albert has been named the diocesan disaster educator.
SECC Sunday is September 8

SECC

The Solomon Episcopal Conference Center is the premier retreat venue of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. Groups book time for play, rest and soulful renewal. While owned by our Diocese, SECC is financially independent and does not receive any funding from our Diocese. The regular operational income is usually sufficient to meet the normal operational expenses, but leaves only a fraction of what is needed to address its aging infrastructure. The second Sunday in September is designated as "SECC Sunday".  At that time, it is hoped that you will prayerfully discern a contribution to help insure the legacy of SECC for our future generations to enjoy. You can leave a donation in your church's collection plate using the designated envelope or you can make a donation online here
at anytime. Thank you for your consideration.
Photo of the Month
Blessing of the Backpacks

[Photograph from the St. Patrick's, Zachary, Facebook Page] Churches across the Diocese of Louisiana sent children off to school with prayers and blessings in a ceremony called The Blessing of the Backpacks. This adorable photograph is from St. Patrick's on August 18.

We offer this prayer for all students and teachers across the Diocese of Louisiana:

Blessing of Students and Educators

Eternal God, father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our great teacher and savior, bless these your servants as they begin the school-year. Your Son was once himself a child learning and teaching in the temple. Grant that all who enter into places of learning as students and educators this year be filled with your grace and heavenly wisdom-that all their efforts be directed by your Holy Spirit, and work to your praise and glory. Amen.
