Bishop's Lenten Book Study: Autopsy of a Deceased Church 

This Lent I will be studying the book Autopsy of a Deceased Church by Thom S. Rainer and I would like for you to consider reading along. The fourteen chapters detail congregations that have experienced a downward spiral and struggled with how to respond. In many ways, the book is not earth-shattering. Most of what you will encounter will be common sense but common sense that is being ignored because, frankly, we are arrogant. We think our church is different than those that have fallen by the wayside. 
 
Sign up here to receive a weekly reflection starting Ash Wednesday. I will cover two chapters a week with the last reflection on the Wednesday of Holy Week.
 
During the season of Lent, I encourage all of our congregations to use Rainer's book as a teaching for small groups, Sunday School or vestry retreats. At the end of every chapter, there are questions to jump-start the conversation. I look forward to hearing about your encounter with Autopsy of a Deceased Church.

Clergy Transitions


The Rev. Dan Puchalla has accepted the call as interim rector of The Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church in Gurnee, Illinois. He was serving as permanent supply priest at St. Luke's, New Orleans.

The Very Rev. Bill Terry has been named a 2019-2020 W.K. Kellogg Foundation fellow. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) Community Leadership Network with the Center for Creative Leadership is an innovative fellowship that supports local leaders to connect, grow and lead transformational change toward a more equitable society.
St. John's, Thibodaux, to Kickoff a Yearlong 175th Anniversary Celebration


Join us Friday, Mar. 15th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 p.m., for Student Expeaux - a Nicholls State University student performance showcase inside the church. A reception will follow in Horgan Hall.

Join us Saturday, Mar. 16th from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m for an LSU AgCenter workshop on tree planting, conservation and care in Horgan Hall. Tickets are $10 dollars at the door. Includes a cemetery tour and refreshments.

Join us Sunday Mar. 17th at 9:30 a.m. for Holy Eucharist. Bring school supplies for the students and teachers at South Thibodaux Elementary, and stay after the service for fun, food by Joie De Vivre catering, festivities, and a free band concert event by "Fr. Ron and Friends" starting at 3:00 p.m.
Happening #82


[Photograph from the St. James EYC Instagram page] Youth of the diocese gathered at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center February 8-10 for Happening #82. Happening is a youth-led spiritual formation weekend designed for high school teens in grades 9-12. The purpose of the Happening program is to be one of the instruments within the Anglican Tradition to renew the Christian Church in the power of the Holy Spirit, in order that the Church may respond more readily to its call to spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world.
Stepping Stones Retreat: Self-Reflection



[Photograph from the Stepping Stones Retreat Instagram Page] The first Stepping Stones Retreat of 2019 was held at Trinity Church, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, February 16. The purpose of the Stepping Stones: Young Adult Retreats is to give young adults some tools and a means of discernment which is not specifically about discerning a call to ordination.  Each day retreat focuses on an aspect of the spiritual life which everyone will struggle with and ultimately discern in his/her life. The theme of this retreat was self-reflection. More information about upcoming retreats will be made available soon.
