Announcements from the Bishop's Office
Join Bishop Thompson During Lent to Read the Gospel According to Luke
from the Rt. Rev. Morris K. Thompson, Jr., Bishop of Louisiana

During this Lenten season the Presiding Bishop has asked that we as a community study together. I want to encourage all of us to participate together in the Good Book Club and read the Gospel according to Luke and the Book of Acts. As I wrote last year during Lent I will again offer a brief reflection, a word or phrase that struck me as memorable. I hope you will read with me and respond with your comments. I hope that we can all be engaged in this journey together as we learn more about Jesus who walked among us to heal and save.

About the Good Book Club

The Good Book Club is an invitation to all Episcopalians to join in reading the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts during Lent-Easter 2018. Episcopalians will start reading Luke on Sunday, February 11 and read a section of Luke's Gospel every day through the season of Lent. The entire season of Easter will be devoted to daily readings from the Book of Acts. Already, individuals, congregations, and organizations are committed to being a part of the Good Book Club, and we hope you'll join the journey too!

The Good Book Club website ( goodbookclub.org) lists the daily readings, as well as available resources to support people as they read the scriptures. Resources also will be available in Spanish at  ClubBiblico.org.

St. Francis is Back Home

We are happy to announce that St. Francis, Denham Springs, is back home since suffering so much loss in the August 2016 flood. Since 2016, St. Francis has been sharing space with the First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs. After the completed renovation of the parish hall, on Sunday, January 21, they began once again worshiping on their own campus. In March, St. Francis will break ground on a new building that will hold the sanctuary.

The Rev. John "Brad" St. Romain is a newly licensed priest in the Diocese of Louisiana. He comes to us from the Diocese of Texas. He is available to serve as a supply priest.

The Rt. Rev. Morris K. Thompson, Jr. was the officiant. The Rev. LeBaron Taylor was the preacher. Music was provided by Michaela Harrison, Dr. Courtney Bryan, and Baba Luther Gray.

St. Alban's Chapel Legacy Campaign Help
by the Rev. Drew Rollins, Chaplain, St. Alban's

St. Alban's Chapel on the campus of LSU has moved into Phase II of a Legacy Campaign to refurbish their organ and to address major maintenance needs. The second phase of this campaign is a Feasibility Study that will eventually help determine the scope of this effort. One part of this phase is to build a "Friends and Alumni of St. Alban's Chapel" contact list. Once students leave the university, it is difficult to stay in touch with them. If you know people who have a special place in their hearts for the ministry of St. Alban's Chapel, and who may not currently be in touch with the chapel, please send an email with their names (and contact information, if you have it) to Laurie Morris ( office@stalban.org ). We want to include them in our Feasibility Study. St. Alban's Chapel is particularly interested to make contact with former students who may have left LSU decades ago, but who still have a deep affection for St. Alban's Chapel. If you have questions, you may contact Fr. Drew Rollins ( lsuchaplain@stalban.org).

We were blessed to have the Rev. Ed Bacon as our keynote speaker for the Stewardship Summit on January 20. Thank you to all who joined us. We thank also  our guest speakers and workshop presenters: Jim Murphy and Ken Quigley of the Episcopal Church Foundation, the Rev. Tommy Dillon, the Rev. Liz Embler-Beazley, the Rev. Rob Courtney, and Jason Akers.
Photo of the Month
All are welcome at St. Andrew's, even the chickens.

[Photograph from St. Andrew's Facebook Page] St. Andrew's, New Orleans, has a new motto: "All are welcome, even chickens." It started with Lula (right) who showed up at St. Andrew's in November. She was so happy that she began inviting her friends. Lula is now a part of the St. Andrew's family and is tithing by laying eggs.
