If you are interested in these issues or if you are the best individual to collect examples of problematic payer behavior, please contact Michael Dole at [email protected] to join the committee!

EDPMA's Education Committee will now oversee workshops, webinars, and the EDPMA/EMRA sponsorship program, and will develop EDPMA's fellowship program.  If you would like to join this committee, please contact Michael Dole at [email protected]

We appreciate your membership in EDPMA. We have a request --> would you help us grow our membership?  More members would mean more financial resources for more federal and state advocacy, help with problematic commercial payers, networking events, and education.  We represent the business of emergency medicine, so please send the names of your business partners, clients, and friends, including emergency physician groups, RCM/billing and coding companies, scribes, lawyers, management companies, companies providing data analytics or financial software, and more.

Please send your referrals to Joanne Tanner, Membership Coordinator, at
(
[email protected]), and include the company/group name, contact name (including email and telephone, if possible), city and state information. And, if it's a personal connection, let us know if we can use your name. Of course, let us know if you have any questions!

PLUS, if one of your referrals ultimately joins, you may qualify for a discount on your 2020 dues!

Thank you very much for your help!

Excerpts from a conversation with Larson Hicks, CEO

Larson Hicks joined the company in May 2018 as CEO after eight years in an economic data software company with increasing responsibilities in sales, product management and marketing.  Later, in a bio-tech company, he was responsible for strategic hospital partnerships. Sycamore founder and CMO, Dr. Hamad Husainy, hired Larson to increase Sycamore's impact on physicians and groups and grow Sycamore into a national brand.

In the old locums model, the incentives are misaligned - success for a locums company (high fees to groups and low pay rates to doctors) works against the success of both groups and doctors. Sycamore is focused on bringing the financial incentives for all parties into alignment by being transparent and charging a low, flat fee.

Sycamore Physician Contracting has exhibited at EDPMA's Solutions Summit for the past three years and plans to exhibit again at the 2020 Summit  Larson explained that his very first day on the job at Sycamore, (actually a few weeks before his official first day), he attended a Solutions Summit conference. He said, "it couldn't have been a better way to get started. I connected with several people that I still work with today." Larson explained that the networking at EDPMA events, especially at the Solutions Summit, is an important opportunity to meet face-to-face with many leaders in the emergency medicine community. It's an opportunity to talk to people directly, hear their concerns, listen to the conference sessions and the issues under discussion. And, the ongoing information provided by being an EDPMA member, such as the weekly ED newsletter and monthly Advocacy and Membership newsletters, are chock full of information and keeps them up-to-date on their client's and prospect's concerns.  And, Sycamore believes that a physician becomes more valuable to their groups/facilities when they are educated about the challenges in the specialty and the concerns facing the EM community.   Larson commented that he is especially concerned with the challenges facing emergency medicine at rural hospitals and facilities.
