Would You Help Us Grow Our Membership?

We appreciate your membership in EDPMA. We have a request --> would you help us grow our membership?  More members would mean more financial resources for more federal and state advocacy, help with problematic commercial payers, networking events, and education.  We represent the business of emergency medicine, so please send the names of your business partners, clients, and friends, including emergency physician groups, RCM/billing and coding companies, scribes, lawyers, management companies, companies providing data analytics or financial software, and more.

Please send your referrals to Joanne Tanner, Membership Coordinator at
(
[email protected]), and include the company/group name, contact name (including email and telephone, if possible), city and state information. And, if it's a personal connection, let us know if we can use your name. Of course, let us know if you have any questions!

PLUS, if one of your referrals ultimately joins, you may qualify for a discount on your 2020 dues!

Thank you very much for your help!

New Member Spotlight: Hernando County
Emergency Physicians

Hernando County Emergency Physicians (HCEP) is a democratic, physician owned-and-operated emergency medicine physician group based near Tampa, FL. It is a small, independent group growing step-by-step that prides itself on providing the highest quality of care for its patients. HCEP staffs three emergency departments in two counties. For more information about Hernando County Emergency Physicians, please contact Dr. Roderick Bennett at [email protected].

Excerpts from a conversation with Roderick Bennett, MD, MBA, Partner

Dr. Roderick Bennett is a practicing emergency medicine physician. He started his career in Emergency Medicine working as an emergency department tech and an EMT during college. Even in is his early days of transporting patients and stocking rooms, he knew he wanted to become an emergency physician and manage emergency departments. Dr. Bennett received his BA from Harvard University and during his second and third years of Medical School at Emory University, he received his MBA from Rollins College.

Roderick knew about EDPMA and its work in advocacy and in business best practices as he had attended a few Solutions Summit conferences when he was with another ED physician group. As a partner in his new physician group, he took the step to join EDPMA knowing it would add value and critical information for his management team, advanced practice professionals and staff. As Dr. Bennett said "EDPMA is the group's key source of information on what is happening in emergency medicine from reimbursement issues to coding changes and business best practices." He sees EDPMA's resources as a way to effectively and cost efficiently consolidate information on emergency medicine in one place for his team. Dr. Bennett is also particularly interested in telemedicine and is glad to see EDPMA getting involved in this area. Dr. Bennett was unable to attend EDPMA's May Telehealth Workshop, but was pleased to see that EDPMA took a close look at this subject matter.

Dr. Bennett highlights that many of the challenges facing Emergency Medicine impact groups across the country. Dr. Bennett sees key challenges as the pace of change, the legislative issues both at the state and federal levels, particularly on reimbursement and surprise billing, He's pleased to see that EDPMA is at the forefront in fighting for what emergency physicians need in surprise billing legislation, in keeping its members informed and in providing action alerts.

Dr. Bennett finds the monthly newsletters, weekly updates and action alerts to be particularly useful. Dr. Bennett and his partners have a partner meeting scheduled this summer where they will discuss the EDPMA Committees and determine how they will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in at least one or two Committees.

Dr. Bennett plans on attending the 2020 Solutions Summit (May 3-6, Nashville).

Join an EDPMA Committee!

We encourage you to join an EDPMA committee.  The real work at EDPMA is done at the committee level. Committee members work together in a variety of ways including:
  • discussing the impact of the ACA, its possible repeal, and changes to Medicaid that impact ED practice groups,
  • organizing meetings with CMS officials on provider enrollment,
  • drafting letters to state-level policymakers on balance billing,
  • identifying speakers on ED best practices,
  • meeting with commercial payers about problematic down-coding policies,
  • developing a toolbox to help survive an audit,
  • preparing for Medicare reimbursement under the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, and
  • building strong business relationships.
Experts work side-by-side with newcomers, new leaders shine, and everyone's contribution is greatly appreciated.  Many members report that insight shared on committee conference calls is one of the most important and unique benefits of their EDPMA membership. We invite you to join one of EDPMA's committees. Information about each committee is available here.  (Don't be shy: if you want, you can just listen in.)

Membership Committee Update
EDPMA would like to welcome three new members this month:

Sycamore Physician Contracting, LLC, Florence, AL
UBQ, Inc., Davis, CA

We look forward to working with you!

Participate in the EMRA's EM Day of Service in September

EDPMA invites you to take part in the EM Day of Service sponsored by the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA).

EMRA announced, "As emergency physicians, residents, nurses, physician assistants, and medical students, we are servant leaders in our communities. We care and advocate for our patients while working clinically. We also respond to the call to give back to the communities we serve. The EM Day of Service was created with this essential concept in mind. The EM Day of Service is a specialty-driven event where emergency care providers identify community needs and volunteer to address those needs.

Join like-minded EM colleagues from around the country to participate in the EM Day of Service!

Who should join the movement?

While driven by EM residents and medical students, all emergency healthcare providers are invited to participate! Emergency physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics and others involved in the emergency care of patients are encouraged to volunteer in communities across the country.

What should we do and where?

Volunteer in your own community. Decide where the needs are greatest and go into action! Here are some ideas to get you started:
  • Host a food drive
  • Help with a construction project (build, paint, remodel) for a community building or a family in need
  • Provide health screen checks at local health fairs
  • Pick up trash in a neighborhood or clean a highway
  • Prepare and serve meals at your local shelter or help with projects, anything from helping with construction to discussing healthcare issues with inhabitants
  • Prepare food for a food delivery service that aids the disabled, severely ill or elderly
  • Visit nursing home residents. Read, play music, participate in their events, lead fun activities
  • Mow or rake lawns for the elderly or disabled
  • Clean up a park or community gathering spot
When is EM Day of Service?
  • Pick a day - any day or several days - in September every year! Plan your service time anytime between September 1 and September 30
  • By choosing several days during the month, this will help you manage clinical hours and volunteer hours. Perhaps some work while others volunteer and vice-versa. It's up to you to determine the most efficient scheduling of your volunteer project
How to participate? It's free - all you need to do is register!

Register Now

Once we receive your registration, you will receive a promotional packet containing the EM Day of Service logos, fill-in-the-blank fliers, and press release you can customize to send to media outlets, community organizations and your institution.

Questions? Need Help? Contact us at [email protected]."

Good luck with your EM Day of Service and send photos to [email protected] so EDPMA can share your story.
