Introduction

Welcome to our February Newsletter,

2015 is our 21st year in business! It's a cliche to say it doesn't feel that long but it really doesn't. Another cliche is to say that the search for quality and improvement has no end, but it's true. Probably more important is that if we do not strive to continue improving we will provide less of a service. It is my view that status quo really isn't an option. "Get better or get worse" - our goal is to keep getting better for the benefit of you and your patients. If there is anything more we can do to help you or to make the referral process easier then please let us know.

It's an exciting time this month as Bob Philpott starts his endodontic sessions with us this week (for any direct questions to Bob email

tele-dentist@edinburghdentist.com or reception@edinburghdentist.com )

Another addition is the introduction of an on site Physio service; Richard Worral will be running his Physio clinic from the practice twice a week from the middle of February (more below).

Last week saw Ashley Latter training over 30 dentists and team members in Edinburgh.  A course which we were pleased to host for a third occasion. Communication skills really are the missing link in providing great dental care, it was fascinating to see people suddenly "get it" and appreciate the immediate impact that it would have on their practices.

Ashley used to work for the Dale Carnegie group. If you've not read them already I would recommend both of Carnegies books: "how to win friends and influence people" and "how to stop worrying and start living". Amazingly these were written in the 30's but read as if they were written yesterday. Human behaviour remains the same.

"How to stop worrying and start living" looks at the negative impact worrying creates and provides a number of techniques to distress your life. One of these techniques is keep busy and live in the "now".

So here's to a busy 2015!

All the best,

Kevin

Have you used our oral surgery referral service yet?

At EDS we strive to offer solutions to the many problems or difficulties general dental practitioners encounter on a daily basis. This may vary from long term restorative or periodontal planning to acute surgical complications such as crown fracture during exodontia and difficult surgical extractions. We can advise on the management of third molars and assist with intraoral pre-orthodontic surgery including impacted canines, removal of retained roots and tooth exposures. We can diagnose and treat soft and hard tissue pathology such as periapical granulomas, polyps and cysts in conjunction with a histopathology report as necessary. Treatment may be administered under intravenous conscious sedation performed by our highly experienced Dental Sedationist, Dr Ainsworth

We provide this comprehensive Oral Surgery service within a few days of receiving your referral. This allows you to obtain a Specialist Oral Surgery or Maxillofacial opinion, combined with cone beam CT scan and radiology report when required, and surgical treatment in a highly time efficient manner. This facility allows your patient to become pain free as soon as possible, minimising time off work and disruption to their lives and permitting continuation with any further dental treatment at the earliest opportunity.

Please do get in touch with us if you feel our Oral Surgeons may be of help to you and your patients.

Physiotherapy Clinic

Richard Worrall a Chartered Physiotherapist will be running his clinic from EDS, starting at the end of February.  His main interest is musculoskeletal physiotherapy, and he will be providing his patients with the skilled assessment and effective treatment of complex back, neck, sports injuries and all other common painful problems. As well as delivering a service to the general public, Edinburgh Dental Specialists are welcoming Richard as a member of its multidisciplinary team, providing a physiotherapy option for patients with Temporomandibular disorders. In addition to acute injuries he offers sports massage therapy for the prevention of postural dysfunction and pain, (something our own dental practitioners and surgeons will be seeking help with).

He offers a range of treatment options including massage, manipulation, exercise advice, acupuncture and dry needling techniques.
