CAFÉ CHURCH

The Rev. Mark Hargreaves recalls how “Café Church” was all the rage amongst church growth experts when he left England. Congregations were encouraged to worship in a secular space and arrange chairs around tables, like in a café. But it wasn’t until a recent circumstance pushed his congregation out of their comfort zone that they unwittingly experienced this style of seating themselves.

When the organ builders moved into St. James-by-the Sea in La Jolla, and rain prevented the congregation from worshiping on the patio as planned, Rev. Hargreaves made the quick decision to relocate to the Cuvier Club across the road. It was set up for a wedding reception. There was no other option. Clergy Transitions

The Rev. Katherine Gordon has been called as interim priest-in-charge at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Rancho Peñasquitos.

Vestries, Bishop’s Committees, Treasurers, and other congregational leaders are invited to join a virtual training in all things governance on April 29, from 9am-12pm on Zoom. The Rev. Canon Gwynn Lynch (Canon to the Ordinary) will cover Vestry/BC basics, and the Rev. Canon Jeff Martinhauk (Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer) will cover Finances and Human Resources.

Only one week left to register for the dinner supporting the youth of our diocese as they prepare to attend the Episcopal Youth Event this Summer. The youth from our delegation are bound to grow in faith and love at EYE. The biggest obstacle in their path is raising funds to get there! Creation Care Month of Service

We are excited to have nearly 20 churches planning to engage in service this month, many in partnership with community organizations, to benefit the environment! If your church has a project and you haven't let us know yet, please share your story!
