WELCOME
to our Fall 2019 Newsletter
I am pleased to provide an update on our vibrant community of students, faculty, and alums here at the Electrical Engineering Department at Columbia University.
We are actively looking to further grow and we have launched a search for a new junior faculty member in the department. Please encourage your graduating doctoral students or postdocs bound for academia to apply
here
.
We also have plenty of
exciting opportunities
for students to apply to our
Master’s
and
Doctoral
programs and many of our research groups offer postdoctoral positions.
Our faculty and students continue to receive international acclaim. Prof. Ethan Katz-Bassett received the
2019 SIGCOMM Rising Star
award
. Our newest faculty member Prof. Asaf Cidon received the
USENIX Distinguished paper
award
. PhD student Anthony Rizzo won the
2019 Synopsys Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition
, while EE alumna Miriam Marwick received
IDA's
Prestigious Award for Excellence in Research
.
Our fall semester is off to a running start with many upcoming activities. We are excited to host Dr. Andrew Viterbi for our
Armstrong Memorial Lecture
on October 15th. The
F1/10 Autonomous Racing Competition
will take place on October 14th and promises to be a lot of fun.
My best wishes for a successful fall semester!
