Happy June! We are fortunate at EEF to experience so much positivity and support from the community and I want to share some “good feels” with you.

EEF just completed its move to the Palo Verde Family Resource Center (PVFRC) when I received a call from Brent who was a member of the Greater Tucson Leadership Class of 2019 (who founded EEF’s hygiene pantry). Brent asked how his employer, Burns & McDonnell, could help EEF. I mentioned the PVFRC had a ramada they wanted installed near the new hygiene pantry shed. Brent rallied fellow employee volunteers to assemble the ramada over two Saturdays. Not only did they provide the labor, but they brought in decking materials and built a beautiful new deck and the covered ramada (click here to see pics)! EEF and PVFRC are beyond grateful to Brent and the Burns & McDonnell team!! ❤

Next good feels….EEF, in partnership with TUSD’s African American Student Services (AASS), was awarded a $10,000 grant from the African American Legacy Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona! This grant will support the Greatness Academy STEM Mentor Program which focuses on STEM enrichment and STEM camps for African American students. My heart is full knowing these opportunities will make a positive impact in the lives of our African American students. Congratulations to AASS!

One more….you will see below the giant card we received from a Classroom Grant recipient. So touched and reminds us why we are here!

Today, EEF kicks off our Back To School Bonanza! We’ve combined all of our back to school drives into one big summer-long campaign including a Stuff The Bus event in July. Imagine every TUSD student walking into school with confidence and the essentials to kick-off a successful school year. You can help! Ask a place of business to set out a collection bin or post our flyer (contact us if you need flyers).

EEF’s annual audit for fiscal year (July 2019-June 2020) was recently completed and the 2019-20 Annual Report is below. This report will be posted on our here. This report will be posted on our website.

MEET XAVIER
Xavier is EEF’s Board President. We recently sat down with Xavier for an interview to ask him what he loves about EEF, and what being on the board means to him, here is what he had to say...

What inspired you to become a board member?
Honestly, I was not inspired to become an EEF board member. Jeff Sawyer (EEF Board Vice President) forced me. I AM SO GLAD he did. I consider serving on EEF’s board, working with other board members, and staff to be one of my greatest joys.

What I love most about EEF is being a part of interscholastic programs. Each year EEF pays sports and fine arts fees for students who would not otherwise get to participate, and watching kids participate and do what they love brings joy to my life.

CLASSROOM GRANTS
We are thrilled to announce EEF has awarded 96 Classroom Grants totaling $81,445 to educators throughout TUSD. The grants will serve 49 schools, which will ultimately have an impact on countless students within the district.

A HUGE shoutout to the donors and supporters who help make this program possible!
THE HYGIENE PANTRY
The St. Marks Hygiene Pantry location is now permanently closed. All hygiene supplies are now stored and distributed at the TUSD Family Resource Centers which are open year-round. Donations can be dropped off during business hours at any Family Resource Center.
