The Cash Raffle Fundraiser Has Begun!

It’s Cash Raffle Time!

Our annual cash raffle is back and ready for you to sell tickets.

Lucky winners of $500, $250, or $100 will be chosen during our amazing Halloween Carnival on October 26th, 2024

Why do we raise this money every year?

The PTK actively raises money to fund programs and activities including:

  • Grade level programs like dance, theater, fish-raising, NDI, and cooking.
  • Teacher reimbursements - up to $700 per teacher each year
  • Club and team stipends - $250 for each club and team
  • Tutoring
  • Field trips and activities
  • and so much more!

How students win too!

Now for the really fun part we want to make sure that our students have plenty of chances to earn prizes too!

The first way is to meet your minimum selling goal of $75 worth of raffle entrees! Every student who meets this goal will earn a mystery prize!

The next is the Monster Dash, each class becomes a monster during the month of October and they are racing each other to win a party! The top 2 selling classes in Kindergarten-3rd and 4th-6th will get a party of their choosing (with teacher approval of course).

The monster dash is back up in the cafeteria so keep an eye on that during lunch so you can see how your class is doing!

We have one more way to win a prize - the top 3 selling students in the whole school will earn cash prizes themselves! The top selling student will receive $100, the second-place student will receive $75, and the third top selling student will receive $50.

What do I tell our family/friends? How do we invite them?

An excellent question.

Here is a sample email to copy and paste to send to family and friends.

Hi (Name),

I'm participating in a raffle to raise money for Carlos Gilbert Elementary, and I would love your help! Every ticket counts! Please help our Blackhawks continue to soar!

The PTK funds an enrichment program, such as theater, dance, or cooking, for each grade. The PTK also provides every teacher a reimbursement each semester for classroom materials, gives every club and team a yearly stipend, pays teachers to tutor students in need of extra assistance, facilitates school events, and supports other programs and activities as needed. If you purchase tickets you are helping to directly support and enrich the educational, creative, and social experience of students, teachers, and families in our school community.

We appreciate you and wish you luck!

Please visit my fundraising page to learn more about our cause and how to support our efforts:

I would also really appreciate it if you would spread the word among your friends by sharing my link above.

Thanks again!

Finally: if you want to sell tickets in person to neighbors, family, friends and co-workers this year we have a QR Code that you can take with you so they can easily scan it from their smartphone or tablet.

So get out there and get selling, let's make this our best cash raffle ever!

If you have any questions please email Sarah Leblanc at sarahl@carlosgilbertptk.com. Go Blackhawks!

Scary Story Writing Contest Has Begun

Deadline: midnight on Tuesday, October 15, 2024

Rules

All are invited to tell a tale that will make us shiver, our heads spin, and our hearts skip a beat.

Children in every class, from kindergarten to sixth, are encouraged to write a story that will make us squeal. One, two or three authors are permitted. No more.

The short story, poem or essay may be no less than five sentences and no more than five pages. This does not include illustrations.

The writing must be original, by a young human. No parents, no plagiarism, and no AI or Chatbot generated stories. Those who break this rule will suffer a curse. If you are in kindergarten, your guardian may transcribe the wee one’s story telling.

A panel of monsters, villains, witches and the spirited sort will review each submission for originality, quality (grammar, sentence structure and clarity), and fear factor (degree of haunting, suspense and scariness.)

Stories must be submitted as a pdf and sent by email by midnight Tuesday, October 15, 2024 to fcarreon@sfps.k12.nm.us. Use “Halloween Story 2024” in the subject line and clearly state the title and author’s name in the body of the email. Parents! It’s okay to help the little ones with this submission. Note: by participating in this activity your child’s story and image may be used within the school. Example: we wish to share a recording of the winners reading their stories at the carnival. Late submissions will be left to rot in the graveyard. Deadly serious. The grave diggers working the midnight shift cannot handle late submissions.

Winners will be announced at school on October 21, 2024 and prizes will be awarded at the Halloween Carnival on October 26, 2024.
