W Encourager Header
Welcome to EFC-ER's Weekly Encourager. We trust that this will become a bright spot each week in your emails. The purpose of the Weekly Encourager is to provide up-to-date information about region-wide events, prayer requests, and helpful resources from the local churches. We will close each email with a quick quote and/or survey to gather helpful resources from leaders to share with our wider Friends family.
EFC-ER Photo Contest!
We've extended the photo contest deadline to October 10th.  So far, we have received photos from around 10 photographers.  And, many of the photos are amazing!

We have photos from Jamaica, Haiti and Dominican Republic mission trips.  We'd love to see a few photos from mission trips from our other fields. Also, we' have received photos of only 10 churches. We'd love to have a photo of EVERY FRIENDS CHURCH in Eastern Region.

Please send photos via email to Donna Neff or, mail a flash drive or CD.  The photos have been arriving from across the region.

We will be offering a prize for the following:
  1. Most photos submitted by one person
  2. Best action photo
  3. Best scenic photo
  4. Best photo representing worship
We are looking for a variety of photos to set the theme for the different types of web pages. Here's a starting point on types of photos we'd like:
  • Action photos of people out of doors
  • Children & adults interacting
  • Photos that reflect worship (in church, in nature, in prayer groups, etc.)
  • Good close-ups of faces reflecting the variety of people who attend our churches
  • Scenic views from your region of the country and around the world from mission trips
  • Scenic photos of our church buildings - we have so many different types of churches  within our church family.
  • Photos of elements of service - meals, helping in community clean up, working around the church, etc.

Missionary House
We are pleased to announce that we will have a new Missionary House available to missionaries beginning September 15th.  The new house is within walking distance to restaurants and a grocery store. It will be more suitable for our visiting missionaries and is owned by members of one of our churches.  Under the direction of Joyce Sams, ladies from Alliance Friends worked to make the house live-in ready this week. Thanks, ladies! And thanks to all who help provide a welcoming home-away-from-home throughout the year for our missionaries.

Keeping Prayer a High Priority
We trust that every church is sharing these prayer requests within their local prayer community. Here are this week's requests:

1 - Mary Evelyn Moore has been moved to Woodlawn for rehabilitation and continues to make progress. Please pray for patience and grace as she slowly recovers.
2 - Please lift up Joe (former EFC-ER pastor) and Mary Kirby with the unexpected passing of their granddaughter, Chelsea Kirby on Friday, September 11. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17th in Burlington, NC with Frank Carter officiating.
3 - Continue to pray for Don Kensler's health concerns (father of Assistant Superintendent, Fred Kensler). Fred asks that we pray that his father has a peaceful home-going.

Missions Updates

Arun and Shobha Massey will be available to speak in our churches during October. If you would like to schedule them in your church, please contact Julie Jenkins.
Roy Twaddell (EFM) will visit us in October and is still has a few openings to speak in churches. Since Sundays are limited, consider hosting him for a smaller gathering where you can get to know him one-one-one.
Also, Edwin and Maria Giron (Mexico) will be in the Eastern Region for a limited time in November. Email Julie Jenkins ([email protected]) or call the World Outreach Center to schedule.

GCB boxes are in the mail!
If you have not yet received your materials for our October Missions Month, you will soon!  Regina and Donna worked most of the week preparing materials to send to each of our churches.  If you find you need more materials, give us a call and we'll try to send you what you need.

If your church or WMF group is looking for a special fundraising project to help the EFC-ER, contact the World Outreach Center for some ways you can help.
