Bing Yu, PhD, Awarded a $3 Million Grant to Address the Genetic Etiology of Heart Failure


Congratulations are in order for Bing Yu, PhD, an EHGES associate professor and a JLH Foundation Chair in Transplant Prevention at the UTHealth Houston Campus.


Dr. Yu has received funding for a "Genetic Architecture of Cardiac Structure and Function and Its Impact on Heart Failure" grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). 

The grant aims to elucidate the genetic architecture of cardiac structure and function to improve heart failure prediction in multi-ethnic populations.


This project is co-lead by Vasan Ramachandran, MD, the founding dean of The University of Texas School of Public Health San AntonioHan Chen, PhD, EHGES associate professor, and Alanna Morrison, PhD, professor and chair of EHGES, both with UTHealth Houston Campus, are co-investigators of the project.

UTHealth Cancer Control Research Training Program Awards Predoctoral Fellowship to Guillermo Torteloro, MPH


Guillermo Tortolero, MPH, UTHealth Houston Campus, has been awarded a predoctoral fellowship position funded by the National Cancer InstituteTortolero, who goes by Alex, plans to focus his dissertation on how access to quality dental care affects oral cancer patients. 


What does this fellowship mean to you?

"The fellowship allows me to conduct my research in a supportive, collegial environment and gives me the tools to further my career. And this fellowship provides me opportunities to increase professionalism, collaborate with cancer researchers, and access mentors."

Be Counted in the Global Public Health Workforce Study  

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) is conducting a worldwide "We are Public Health" job task analysis survey. This survey is being done to meet two important goals: to study the most common functions of the public health workforce on a region-by-region basis across the globe and to update the content outline of the Certified in Public Health (CPH) exam. Anyone working in public health is invited to participate. To learn more or take the survey, visit the NBPHE website.
