Class Reunion
Friday, August 5, 2022
Saturday, August 6, 2022
50th Class Reunion – Crystal Ballroom at The Lerner in downtown Elkhart, above what we knew as the ELCO Theater. Hotel Elkhart is a mere block away.

Reunion Committee Chair's Corner

It's time to cheer – our class reunion weekend is almost here! A mere 32 days away.

Can't wait, join our cheerblock virtual reunion on Tuesday, July 12 at 4 pm Eastern Time. Open to all who want to celebrate our school traditions. Anyone remember our fight song? Boys Cheerblock and Girls Cheerblock - all are welcome. No cost, just bring your school spirit.

Back to reunion details we have fun activities planned for Friday at McNaughton with junior high breakouts. Details about event location parking, instructions, etc., are sent in an email blast to those registered for the reunion. We'll continue to update with logistics. Classmates registered stay in the loop and enjoy extra activities planned for the 4 day weekend.

Bella's Boutique in downtown Elkhart is hosting us for a happy hour and offering a discount to all. If you are traveling and forgot something or if you live in town and need boots, gifts or jewelry, you'll find opportunities to pick something up for your needs.

Shoulder to shoulder with classmates, our community appreciation is a feel good activity as we walk through McNaughton Park and remove any trash that others left. Right before we have our welcome event with classmates on Friday night.

River Queen Update. Both cruises are open online until July 27 although near capacity. We reopened the 4-6 pm cruise to allow a few more to join us. Those on board our River Queen cruise will be treated to Elkhart's finest pizza. Sunset is 8:58 pm on August 4th. Come join us for the pizza, fresh air, and conversation to kick off the reunion weekend on Thursday. Don't miss the boat trip.
FOR THOSE WAITING TO REGISTER. We want to include you and keep you in the loop. Online registration closes on July 27 to print registration lists. So register online while it is still open! Main event registration for Friday/ Saturday will be $51 post July 27. I think it should be $71, but the committee consensus is $51. If registering via check, make sure it arrives to our EHS Class of 1971 P.O. Box before August 3.

It is best to avoid walk-ins. We want you on our registration list for check-in because of the number of strangers in town during our weekend. The Elkhart Grand Prix stage will be across from the entrance to The Lerner. We are required to have security at The Lerner and will also have security at McNaughton. Carrying large amounts of cash and weapons is discouraged.

WHAT TO WEAR? Friday night at McNaughton Park is casual. Saturday night you can go glam, retro, modern, or bold, as long as you wear a smile.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
Friday night we have friendly competition with fun activities. Saturday night we have a special program to be revealed and thank sponsors and all who have contributed over the past 50 years. We also have 70s music cultivated for our class. Our class voted for more conversation space – you will be able to dance to our music. Outside there will be a Queen cover band and fireworks via the Elkhart Grand Prix.

MASKS & VACCINES? Indiana has no mandate at this time. You may choose to wear a mask and everyone will be respectful of your choice. If you test positive for Covid at the time of our reunion, we expect you to stay home. Most of us are vaccinated and boosted and there is no plan to test classmates at the reunion.

PICTURES FOR VIDEO.
Below are pictures from our 10th class reunion compliments of Sarah DeBoni Misener, who co-chaired our 20th class reunion.

Dave Dufour stepped up to help us produce videos. Do you have pictures from high school or class reunions to share? We are welcoming these gems.
If you have pictures from past class reunions to contribute, email [email protected] for further directions.
Our 50th is a special, golden year and many are traveling to gather in Elkhart. Some classmates we haven't seen in decades. Everyone is welcome to register for all the events or just Friday/Saturday. Our emphasis is on the Saturday night at The Lerner (basic registration includes Friday night at McNaughton Park Pavilion.) That's two nights for the price of one! And yes that grand picture above is The Crystal Ballroom at The Lerner where our Saturday night event will be filled with classmates.

Friday Welcome and Saturday Reunion Registration. Our early registration and sponsorship drive was successful. While, the breakeven price for the reunion is still higher, individual registration is $40. For those who want to add extra, click the sponsorship button at the end of the newsletter. We strongly recommend registering now as we may fill our event in the upcoming two months.

Thursday River Queen and Sunday Breakfast at Hotel Elkhart Options. The River Queen and Breakfast at Hotel Elkhart are additional options for $30 each that you can add when registering and save on all the events. We have two time periods for the River Queen to insure we aren't packed like sardines. We expect this event will sell out.

Golf Tournament, Pickleball, and Wellfield Botanic Gardens. There are several options that we are organizing. High school tennis coach Margery Artley Hoffman is organizing Pickleball. Chuck Krumwiede is organizing golf and Beth Bowers Kallimani is organizing a Wellfield tour on Friday and Saturday. More specific details are on info sheets sent to those registered. We will remind you of your boat cruise time the week of the reunion along with parking instructions.

Why go to the reunion? Connect and reunite with a cohort that grew up listening to the same music. Share with "old" friends and make new friends. We had such a big class and love hearing others' stories. Be grateful you are alive!

Hotel Elkhart Room Block Information
Hotel Elkhart Shiny and New. Hotel Elkhart is back to its glory and splendor as it reopened in September after an extensive remodel. Everything is fresh and shiny for a 100 year-old building. Many remember Hotel Elkhart attending cotillion, family events, and weddings. We are excited to announce that Hotel Elkhart is welcoming our class in August.

Number of Rooms. Our class contact survey update included 45 classmates indicating that they would like to be part of our room block and 23 said maybe. We negotiated for 40 rooms and will try to obtain more rooms if needed. Those interested in our room block should register now to get the special rate.

Room Rate. Our $149 special rate (for either 2 queen beds or a king bed) is available to those registered for our class reunion. A king suite is $189. The going rate for the hotel is substantially higher than our rate and even higher if you wait. Cancellation without penalty the day prior to arrival. Free parking and gym. If rooms are available yet, Hotel Elkhart will still give you our rate if you are in our room block.

Securing Our Room Block Code. Register for the Class Reunion and indicate hotel block on the form. We will email the hotel registration link and code following your paid reunion registration.

Ninth floor at Hotel Elkhart is once again a grand ballroom. Whose sister got married there? Who remembers Ms. Buchkowski?
Our Hotel Block is available until June. Rooftop bar will be a nice respite during our reunion week.
The Corner Bar at Hotel Elkhart is already a popular watering hole.

Wellfield Gardens
Wellfield Gardens. For those registered for the reunion, see the Logistics email blast to pay for the Wellfield entrance or tour. We have a tour of Wellfield on Friday and on Saturday. Logistics and further info is sent to all registered for the class reunion.

Below is our committee with the class paver in August 2021 (pictured Diana Bryant Duncan, Beth Bowers Kallimani, Chuck Krumwiede, Bonnie Wright Miller, Amy Salee Miller, Mary Work Rasp, Nancy Weldy, Jeff New and Barb Leasure Kipker). Be grateful that during our reunion activities, you can visit the Wellfield Botanic Gardens and wander over to the conversation area. Be like Pam (Atwood) Walker enjoying a stroll and finding our paver. Over 50 classmates will be gathering in Wellfield during our reunion week. Join in the stroll there.

Thanks Mary Work Rasp for the picture of the Wellfield beautiful flowers this weekend.
