Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Throughout the summer, our team has been working hard to prepare for what we believe will be an amazing year. Our teachers and support staff are excited and ready to provide a top-notch learning experience for all of our students. The month of August marks the start of the school year and the excitement throughout our campus is palpable. Students at East understand that they are a part of something special, and they are eager to contribute to the enriching culture that makes Madison East such a remarkable school.
My message this month is focused around communication, involvement and support. I encourage all students, parents, and guardians to get connected and stay informed by regularly reading the Purgolder Press (emailed weekly to students, staff, and parents and archived on the East Website), following us on Twitter (@MadisonEastHS), Facebook (@purgolderpride), Instagram (@purgolderpride) and using the school website. There are various opportunities for students to get involved in
Sports and Clubs & Activities. Additionally, East is lucky to have an incredible group of parent volunteers and we are continually looking for more! Consider any one of these parent groups when thinking about getting involved:
Also, please note that this year's Back to School Night is on Monday, September 23rd - I look forward to seeing you there. The partnership that we have with our community is very powerful. Our goal is to always support families in their mission to reinforce continual growth when it comes to our young people.
Did you know coming to school in the first month of school can predict good attendance through the school year?
Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Find out more on the
MMSD Attendance Website.

Did you know parents can report excused absences and tardies online?
Parents are welcome to continue to call the student's Neighborhood Office, email their Neighborhood Secretary, or send a note with their student. The online form is simply an additional option for attendance reporting. Please remember that only Board Approved reasons can be accepted as excused absences or tardies. Reference Board Policy 4031 on page 38 of the
District Policy Guide.
