Climate Week NYC

EIA headed to New York for Climate Week NYC! EIA joined partners, advocates, and organizations from around the world for conversations on urgent environmental challenges.

Climate Campaign

Climate Campaign Director Avipsa Mahapatra joined leaders such as the Environment Minister of Rwanda and the head of CCAC at The Cool House plenary marking 10 years of the Kigali Amendment. Avipsa urged greater ambition as the Montreal Protocol community celebrates progress made in phasing down climate-warming hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and the need for stronger implementation, faster adoption of climate-friendly cooling, and better management of refrigerants throughout their lifecycle.

What are HFC’s, anyway?

Extractives Campaign

Senior Africa Programs Campaigner Luke Allen presented the findings and follow-up to our Toxic Transition report published earlier this year. Luke spoke as part of a panel discussion hosted by the NGO FERN on the environmental and social costs of mining in the DRC. The panel offered a space for candid dialogue with representatives from partner NGOs, standards bodies, and foundations to discuss what is required for meaningful structural change in the DRC and what can be done to support local and civil society communities.

The Poisoning of Munduruku Land

The territories of the Munduruku Indigenous people of Brazil are being devastated by illegal gold mining. Our new interactive report details how the mining is destroying Amazon rainforest while contaminating the Munduruku’s food and water with toxic mercury. Soon after we shared high-resolution satellite evidence with government authorities and the Inter-America Court of Human Rights, Brazilian law enforcement initiated an operation targeting the mining.

Explore the report to see how the Munduruku are using technology to collect evidence and advocate for better protection of their lands.
