The EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA) officially launched its North American PCR/LCA/EPD Project with a virtual kickoff meeting on August 11th. Led by TrueNorth Collective in collaboration with Smart EPD, the initiative will develop a North American EIFS-specific Product Category Rule (PCR) supported by an industry-average Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), enabling an industry-wide Environmental Product Declaration (EP). The meeting highlighted that 100% of U.S.-based EIFS manufacturers, along with the EIFS Council of Canada and Canadian EIFS manufacturer ADEX, are participating—ensuring broad industry representation.
Discussions emphasized the importance of an industry-led PCR to ensure EIFS products are assessed fairly against competing claddings, the growing market demand for verified environmental data, and the multi-phase project timeline. Participating manufacturers will provide detailed data on materials, production, installation, and end-of-life to build a robust LCA model. Once complete, the PCR and resulting EPDs will help EIFS manufacturers meet regulatory requirements, align with LEED and Buy Clean programs, and strengthen their position in the marketplace.
| | Creative Training Approach Earns Nicolson Construction EIFSmart Contractor Seal | | |
Longstanding EIMA member Nicolson Construction recently trained 65 employees through the EIFS—Doing It Right® program, developed by the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI), reinforcing its culture of learning and commitment to quality. CEO Dave Nicolson, a member of EIMA’s Education and Workforce Development Working Group, emphasized that investing in education benefits both workers and the broader EIFS industry.
As a result of this training, Nicolson Construction earned the prestigious EIFSmart Contractor Seal, a designation awarded to companies that demonstrate excellence in EIFS installation through verified training, adherence to industry best practices, and ongoing professional development. The seal signals to building owners, architects, and contractors that Nicolson maintains the highest standards of workmanship and safety.
The AWCI training has already improved morale, advanced Nicolson’s internal journeyman system, and strengthened best practices across the company. Nicolson is also encouraging suppliers and peers to adopt similar training standards to build a stronger, more knowledgeable workforce industry-wide.

| | EIFS TechLine: EIMA’s Monthly Technical Bulletin | |
The EIMA Technical and Research Working Group presents the next edition of the EIFS TechLine, a monthly technical bulletin series authored by EIMA members that delivers clear, practical guidance on key technical topics in the Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) industry. Whether you're an architect, specifier, contractor, or manufacturer, EIFS TechLine is your trusted source for in-depth insights and actionable best practices that support smart, high-performance building solutions.
This issue highlights the benefits of Liquid-Applied Water-Resistive Barriers (LA-WRB's), which serve as both a secondary moisture barrier and an effective air barrier, meeting rigorous building standards in the U.S. and Canada. Applied as a fluid and dried to a durable membrane, LA-WRB's offer strong substrate adhesion, water resistance, and compatibility with EIFS and other claddings, making them a versatile solution for modern construction.
EIFS TechLine represents EIMA’s ongoing commitment to industry leadership, education, and quality. We invite all members and industry partners to explore this edition and look forward to sharing future bulletins on additional technical topics.
