EIMA Leads Unified North American EIFS Industry Effort to Develop Best-in-Class Sustainability Documentation

EIMA is spearheading a comprehensive initiative to develop a Product Category Rule (PCR), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS). In an unprecedented show of unity, 100% of American EIFS manufacturers —EIMA members and non-members alike—are participating in the effort, underscoring the industry's shared commitment to sustainability, transparency, and high-performance construction.

Importantly, this PCR will cover all of North America, with collaboration and funding support from the EIFS Council of Canada and Adex Systems, a Canadian EIFS manufacturer and EIMA member.

Participating US manufacturers include: Dryvit Systems (a brand of Tremco CPG), Master Wall, Inc., Sika USA (Parex USA and Senergy brands), Sto Corp., Decoplast, Energex Wall Systems, Facades Xi, Omega Products International, Total Wall, Inc., and Ultrakote Products.

To ensure scientific rigor and third-party credibility, EIMA has partnered with Smart EPD, a respected program operator for environmental declarations, and TrueNorth Collective, an expert consultancy in life cycle assessment and sustainability reporting.

Smart EPD is inviting stakeholders to apply to participate in the development of the PCR for EIFS. If you are interested in being considered to serve on this PCR committee, please complete and submit an application found at: https://forms.office.com/r/zvbbHQB0u5. Applications will be accepted until Friday August 8, 2025.

EIMA’s EPA Grant Excluded from New Federal Funding Bill: Focused Federal Advocacy Underway

The “Big Beautiful Bill,” recently signed into law by the President after passing both the House and Senate, does not include EIMA’s EPA grant, which was among over 15,000 government grant requests denied or deferred (“DOGED”). In response, EIMA launched a targeted advocacy and education effort reaching 13 Senators in eight states where EIFS manufacturing plants operate. Those states are AZ, CA, GA, OK, RI, TX, UT, and VT. The goal is to raise awareness on Capitol Hill about the EIFS industry’s vital role in sustainable, energy-efficient building solutions and to also spotlight the extensive U.S. footprint of EIFS manufacturing facilities and the thousands of constituents across the country involved in EIFS manufacturing, distribution, and installation.

EIFS Technical Advocacy: Two New ANSI Standards Underway

Following the 2025 Annual Meeting, EIMA has initiated the development of two new ANSI standards to strengthen the technical foundation of the EIFS industry. First, an update to the American National Standard ANSI/EIMA 99A–2017 is underway, which will incorporate advancements in insulation materials and finishes, including masonry veneer systems. EIMA has already completed the first step in this process with the publication of the Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) on June 27, 2025.

A second, brand-new standard focused on Quality Control and Quality Assurance is also being developed, building on recommendations presented by Zurich North America, who also intend to participate in the standard's development. These efforts underscore EIMA’s commitment to supporting technical excellence and industry-wide consistency.

Introducing EIFS TechLine: EIMA’s New Monthly Bulletin for Technical Excellence

The EIMA Technical and Research Working Group is proud to announce the launch of EIFS TechLine, a monthly technical bulletin series authored by EIMA members that delivers clear, practical guidance on key technical topics in the Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) industry. Whether you're an architect, specifier, contractor, or manufacturer, EIFS TechLine is your trusted source for in-depth insights and actionable best practices that support smart, high-performance building solutions.

The first issue, About EIFS with Drainage, provides a foundational overview of one of the most important advancements in EIFS technology: drainage systems. As building codes, performance standards, and climate demands evolve, understanding how to properly incorporate drainage into EIFS designs is essential for long-term building integrity.

EIFS TechLine represents EIMA’s ongoing commitment to industry leadership, education, and quality. We invite all members and industry partners to explore this first installment and look forward to sharing future bulletins on additional technical topics.

Discover the Latest "EIFS Effect" Case Studies

The EIFS Effect case study series highlights innovative projects across North America that showcase the performance, design versatility, and sustainability of Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS).
