E Kanikapila Kakou, celebrating its 43rd season will go down as the year we survived all odds to bring the best Hawaiian music to the Kauaʻi community. Moving EKK from Kauai Beach Resort (our home for 10 years) to KCC PAC, Kauaʻiʻs “coconut wireless” made sure the world knew we had new digs, so our “regulars” and “newbees” packed the PAC for six weeks (in spite of storms, date changes and a plethora of adversities) to enjoy an amazing lineup of exciting artists. To seal 2026 as a BONANZA year, we present two EKK favorites,– Natalie and Iolani Kamauʻu and son Chaz on March 16, and Makana on March 23 with his “Lei Kukui” Concert sharing his most diverse and relevant music.

Garden Island Arts Council Board Member...

Born and raised on Kauaʻi, Shannon Hiramoto resides in her hometown of Kōloa with her daughter, Charli. She serves on the boards of Hawaiʻi Craftsmen and the Garden Island Arts Council (GIAC), where she is also the administrative assistant, specializing in grant writing, program management, and digital services.

Recently she redesigned GardenIslandArts.org, adopted a new CRM for GIAC, and revamped the biweekly Arts & Culture E-Calendar. Shannon is currently organizing the upcoming BoroBoro Boutique Pop-Up and Craft-A-Thon (May 22–24 at KSA Gallery at Kukui Grove Shopping Center), as well as a first-ever community Trashion Show planned for October. Her favorite GIAC programs are E Kanikapila Kākou and the Līhuʻe Airport Displays.



Passionate about fashion design, culture, and history, Shannon started #muumuumonth in 2015, a month-long January celebration of the muʻumuʻu featuring community events with the Kauaʻi Historical Society and other orgs. Since 2007 she has created handmade one-of-a-kind clothing under the name machinemachine, currently producing and selling her work at Hāloa Gallery, at Kilohana Plantation, which she shares with painter Carol Meckling. When not crafting or volunteering, Shannon gardens and is nearing completion of her MA in Arts Administration.

DID YOU KNOW...

History Day, hosted by KCC, took place at the Learning Resource Ctr and the PAC on Saturday, March 7. Coordinated by KCC History Prof, Dr. Mark Ombrello, who explained, "The Hawaii History Day is a yearlong, project-based curriculum for learning history and it is an affiliate program to National History Day." Students from Island School participated under the leadership (as well as the important coaching) of instructors Jamie Nause and Pat Gegen.

Bassel & The Supernaturals tour the State of Hawaiʻi for the first time in their career! Murder. Mystery. Mayhem.… and a theatre company that really shouldn’t be trusted with any of them. Kauai Community Players proudly present the int'l comedy sensation The Play That Goes Wrong: The Cornley Drama Society has worked tirelessly to present a classic 1920s murder mystery. Unfortunately…The actors may not remember their lines. - The props may not be where they should be. - The crew may be making things worse. - And the “dead body” may not stay dead! Despite a series of increasingly catastrophic mishaps, the cast is determined to finish the play. And that’s when things really start to go wrong.

If you love comedy, live theatre, or simply watching things go hilariously off the rails … this is the show for you. But be warned: Tickets will disappear faster than the props in this show!

An Askew Look at Kauai Happenings was inspired by the volunteer work of Kauai arts supporter Greg Askew, who, for a very long time, sent out his own What's Happenin' eblast.
