Kindergarten ESOL students have continued to develop language skills through the completion of a “Health” unit through the Gym Adventure in Little Sponges. Healthy routines, such as nutrition, exercise, and rest were highlighted to emphasize being our BESt! Also in our Little Sponges program, students will listen, speak, read and write about the Jungle & Forest. The students are learning about and comparing plants and animals from these environments. Students are learning to communicate using singular and plural forms. We look forward to seeing you and your family at International Night on March 30 at Buford Arena from 6-8pm. You and your family are invited to wear your culture’s traditional clothing to the event! It’s going to be great!

We are springing forward into March as Buford Academy First, Second and Third graders have finished ACCESS testing last month! We are so proud of the efforts and abilities that our ESOL students displayed. It will be a while before we receive individual results, but we are confident that your child did their personal best! We have had our schoolwide Wolfathon race and celebrated Dr.Seuss week as well.

As we push into the final two months of school, please remember to check behind your child to see that they are completing homework assignments for all subject areas and that they are provided reading practice opportunities at home. Third graders are preparing for the upcoming Milestones testing in the weeks ahead. Please look for more information to arrive from your child’s Homeroom teacher about testing dates and special information. We invite you to celebrate BCS International Night with us on March 30th 6:00-8:00 PM at Buford Arena. Last year's event was a huge success and we expect the same again this year! Thank you again for the opportunity to serve your child’s language needs at Buford Academy. We truly enjoy learning alongside them each day.

Mrs. Tsouchlos' classes enjoyed celebrating their love of reading during Read Across America week! They enjoyed dressing up each day and hearing all kinds of books read aloud. One of their favorite books was called Say Hello! by Rachel Isadora. The students learned how to say "hello" in many different languages! On the last day of Read Across America week, they had a visit from Rapunzel!

BSA's Drama Club presented a play called Alice in Wonderland. Our students enjoyed the performance! They were most impressed with how well the actors performed, as well as, how quickly the stage set changed for the different scenes. Students had already studied the elements of a drama and were able to see those elements come to life on stage!

We had a very special Career Day at Buford Middle School. We had a guest speaker named Juan Terrazas. He was the inspiration behind the book entitled, Left in America, The Story of Juan Terrazas. Mr. Terrazas was a wonderful motivational speaker for the 6th , 7th, and 8th grade students. Additionally, he stayed and addressed the English Language learners in a private session. The students were able to ask Mr. Terrazas personal questions in both English and Spanish. They were truly motivated and inspired by his encouraging words and actions. Thank you to Mr. Terrazas as well as to our fine leaders of Buford City Schools who made this special occasion possible!

Buford High School students enjoyed learning about careers after high school graduation. Jonathon Tovar is interested in attending classes to become an electrician and Jennifer Garcia is interested in pursuing a career in education. Check out the students in Mrs. Fouquette's ESOL class. They enjoyed reading memoirs of students who immigrated to the United States.
