Kindergarten ESOL students have continued to develop language skills through the completion of a “Health” unit through the Dentist and Garden Adventures in Little Sponges. Healthy routines, such as eating fruits & vegetables from the garden, exercising, and resting were highlighted to emphasize being our BESt! In the Garden Adventure in Little Sponges, we also learned all about color words and objects that are each color of the rainbow. Coming up in our Little Sponges program, students will listen, speak, read, and write about the Jungle and Forest. The students are learning about and comparing plants and animals from these environments. We hope you and your family have a wonderful Spring Break and we look forward to more exciting learning happening throughout April! Save the Date: Our BCSS International Night will be Thursday, May 2!

We are "springing" into the month of March with lots of exciting events at Buford Academy and our ESOL classrooms! We have finished up our ACCESS testing season and celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss who provided us with so many children's books that we love and enjoy. Our students have been working on opinion writing and instructional conversations while expressing their feelings and beliefs about a variety of topics. Spring conferences will be coming this month which provides an opportunity for you to meet with or reach out to your child's homeroom teacher as well as their ESOL teacher with any questions you may have about their progress or performance. Please save the date of May 2nd for your child and family to participate and attend the Buford City Schools International Night at the Buford Arena. This is always a night enjoyed by everyone who comes together to celebrate the many cultures shared in our Buford Family. We hope to see you there!

Books, books, books! Our students enjoyed the BSA Spring Book Fair.  They began with a Book Fair preview day. They browsed book covers, read the back of books, and wrote down titles & prices of the books that captured their interest. Students then returned to the Book Fair on a different day to purchase books or help their teacher purchase books for the classroom library.

BSA students love any opportunity to cook, and NO TECH DAY provided the perfect time to do that! Students practiced many of their language skills as they made Rice Crispy Treats.

Lastly, BSA students have been writing a lot this semester as they prepare for the upcoming Georgia Milestones Assessment. We have been focusing on writing opinion essays, as well as, informational essays. Their favorite essay topic so far has been an opinion essay on outdoor recess vs. indoor recess.

The students at BMS worked really hard on the ACCESS test. We are very proud of them! To celebrate, we brainstormed countries we'd like to visit one day and conducted research projects on those countries. The students presented their findings to the class. It was a great way to learn about research tools as well as practice listening, reading, writing, and especially speaking skills. Attached are just a few photos of the countries we traveled, too! The students enjoyed traveling around the world through reading!

Mario Ventura, a former ESOL student at BHS, signed his commitment letter to play football at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. Mario was a member of the Buford Wolves football team for all 4 years of high school. We are so proud of him and can not wait to watch him excel on and off the field!
