ESOL students celebrated Multicultural day during the month of October. We had the honor of celebrating the many different cultures in our ESOL classes! Students and parents worked hard at home to create a “Where I’m From” poster! The students enjoyed seeing their peers represent their cultures and learning more about their family’s heritage! Thank you parents for helping your child with this project! We are so proud of our Kindergarten students and the incredible culture they bring to our classrooms each day!

In our Little Sponges online program, we explored the Farm Adventure. We learned about where milk, eggs, honey and bread come from. The students are communicating and reading common food vocabulary words and farm vocabulary words. They also are learning about colors to describe different farm animals while answering basic questions. . We hope you enjoyed the week of Thanksgiving with your family and please know how thankful we are to teach your precious children each day!

Buford Academy ESOL students have been hard at work in first through third grades. We celebrated Cultural as well as Book Character Dress Up Day and started the month of November with Fall related studies for our reading and writing assignments. All ESOL classes continue to work on developing student vocabulary through learning activities each week. 

Please continue to have your child participate in at home reading experiences. These can be provided through their school library books or visiting multiple reading based websites via the Wolf Wall. In addition, a multilingual resource, uniteforliteracy.com, provides access to many books with translations in many languages. 

Please continue to keep up sight word practice and drill for first and second grade ESOL students. These are often memorized and then forgotten if not revisited. Your child's ESOL teacher has a supply of colored sight word cards if they have lost them. We will be happy to replace them with a new set! Also, you can access the SIGHT WORD icon on the Wolf Wall for automated card sets and Canvas ESOL pages for Picture Me sight word videos.

The "Linguistically Gifted" students at Buford Middle School work efficiently every single day perfecting their English reading, writing, and grammar skills. In addition to the regular school week, the English learners are invited to Saturday School. They are enjoying three extra hours of academic instruction. They rotate between math, reading, and writing classes. BMS also offers Overtime for the students who need extra help in reading and math. We certainly are BLESSED IN BUFORD!
