November was an awesome Month for our ESOL students at BES! We recognized International Student’s day on November 17 and had the honor of celebrating the many different cultures in our ESOL classes! Students and parents worked hard at home to create a “Where I’m From” poster! The students enjoyed seeing their peers represent their cultures and enjoyed learning more about their family’s heritage! Thank you parents for helping your child with this project! We are so proud of our Kindergarten students and the incredible culture they bring to our classrooms each day!

In our Little Sponges online program, we finished the Farm Adventure and started the School Adventure. The students are communicating and reading common school vocabulary words. They also are learning about colors and color words, as well as learning about objects in the Day and Night Sky. Next, we’ll learn more about the Thanksgiving Holiday and gratitude.

      In the month of November, we are continuing to practice instructional conversations with daily speaking and listening exercises with our ESOL classmates, while building connections and relationships. We are also strengthening our informational writing skills as we have composed and published writings on several topics such as pumpkin life cycles, how to build a scarecrow, and self-selected mammal animal research. The second grade students enjoyed a fieldtrip to the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary and all ESOL students enjoyed dress-up days at the close of October. As we approach the holidays, please do not hesitate to reach out if your family has needs that we can help accommodate. At this time of year where we reflect upon the things that we are thankful for, we want to express our appreciation to you, our parents in the community of language learners, for the gift of working with your child each day here at BA!     

The students at Buford Middle School had a fun and relaxing break. Students traveled to Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and even New York. They had an amazing time but now are ready to get back to studying diligently. Sixth grade students will begin Gary Paulsen's novel called Hatchet. Seventh graders will embark on the sequel to Freak the Mighty called Max the Mighty. Finally, the eighth grade students will study the novel written by Walter Dean Myers entitled Monster. There will be much learning going on at BMS before winter break!
