Happy 2023! We are excited to be back together and hope everyone enjoyed their Winter break! In Kindergarten, our ESOL students have had a cool start to the New Year by learning about winter, winter animals, clothing, and how it is different from the other seasons. We also are learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his incredible efforts to help people from all races live together in peace and harmony. We will be administering the state-mandated ACCESS for ELLs (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners) from January 30 through February 28. This test monitors the progress of ESOL students in the following 4 domains: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We will spend time during ESOL class fine-tuning these areas to prepare for this important test. Be sure your child is here at school each day, is well-rested, and has a nutritious breakfast during this important time. And we want to wish a Happy Lunar New Year to you and your family! Lunar New Year is a special Asian tradition welcoming in a new year and honoring ancestors. May 2023 bring you prosperity, hope, and tranquility!

Our ESOL students have had a "cool " start in 2023, and we’re excited about all of our learning in reading, writing, speaking, and listening! Some of our classes have been preparing for Lunar New Year with lantern crafts, year of the rabbit drawing, and writing happy new year in Chinese. Throughout Buford Academy, we "rocked" the 100th day of school and dressed like rock stars! Our first, second, and third graders are working on several strategies to help with reading comprehension. We are learning to look for clues in the text and illustrations to determine the main idea, make inferences and identify details. Your child's ESOL Canvas page and The WolfWall on our school website have many great learning opportunities.

We will be administering the state-mandated ACCESS for ELLs (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners) from Monday, February 6 through Friday, February 24th. This test is used to monitor the progress of ESOL students in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

We are excited to see the growth that our ESOL students have made this year!

Winter Break was great, but we missed our students!! We were so excited to see their smiling faces as they returned to school. They came back ready to conquer the 2nd semester here at BSA. Students wasted no time preparing and practicing for the ACCESS Test. This test is given to EL students to assess their English language proficiency in the domains of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. It is a time to show off all that they have learned! We are so proud of how diligently they worked throughout the testing process. They should be proud of themselves and deserve a big round of applause!

Buford Middle School students are hard at work preparing for the ACCESS test which will be administered the week of February 20th. Please make sure your student has a good night's rest, a good breakfast, and is in attendance for all days of ACCESS testing. The test consists of 4 sections: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. It will measure their progress in the English language in those 4 domains. As soon as the results arrive, we will send the parents a copy. Thank you for all the support you give your student!
