School News

The BES ESOL teachers are so proud of our students for all that they’re showing on the Kindergarten ACCESS test! The Kindergarten ACCESS helps teachers and parents understand the student’s current level of English language proficiency and provides teachers information to enhance instruction. We all look forward to receiving the score reports (test results) in May 2024. In February we enjoyed celebrating Black History Month, Dad’s Day, and Valentine’s day! We love hearing about parents engaging their children in meaningful conversation. Whether at the dinner table or at the grocery store, you can ask your children questions that require more than a simple yes or no answer. For example: “What made you smile at school today?” “Why is Summer better than Winter?” “Tell me about the students in your class and what they look like.” Thank you for supporting your child’s speaking skills- in your native language or in English! In the month that celebrates the act of Love, we want to say that we love working with your children every day in ESOL. We are thankful for the opportunity that we have been given to do so. All classes at BA have been working diligently to prepare for this month's ACCESS testing period. We have had instructional conversations with peers and have created videos to show off our speaking abilities. In addition, we have been exercising our writing skills and stamina throughout the past few months. The test will include assessments in the domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. We will begin testing on February 5th and continue through February 23rd. We want to thank all of the parents who attended the EL Parent Night session held in January. The parents received valuable information relating to the ACCESS test, while the students enjoyed time hanging out with their friends eating snacks, completing artwork, and watching a show! We look forward to watching your child put forth their best efforts and continue to grow and learn as the months of the school year proceed forward.

Our AMAZING students completed the ACCESS Test with great effort and determination. We were so proud of all the hard work they put into preparing, practicing, and taking the ACCESS Test. We wanted to celebrate them, so we had an ACCESS PARTY!!! Students were able to enjoy snacks and extra recess!

At Buford Middle School, we are in the middle of ACCESS testing. The students are working hard, and we are so proud of them. We are well prepared. As you can see in one of the pictures, we were preparing for the Writing domain by developing essays as well as analyzing each part of the essay. We had a visitor come to observe us one day, and she joined in on the fun! We were impressed by her analysis of essay skills! Additionally, the central office gave us a beautiful gift of books. You will see pictures of the early birds receiving packets of books to read in their native language. What a treat! Thank you to the central office for providing this for us!

The students at BHS have been practicing diligently for the ACCESS Test. Everyone has worked very hard and we are expecting all students to show growth. They also had their first Benchmark for the semester. We have a record number of Newcomers and they have been working hard to learn English.
