Women last in medical deanship positions just as men do – Why do so few get an offer?

ELAM Executive Director, Nancy Spector, MD (ELAM ’10), recently discussed biases that many women face as they aspire for top leadership positions in an article for the Drexel University news blog. “ELAM and ELH help women to level the playing field and reach their full potential by not only empowering them with necessary skills, but also improving the visibility of their contributions to advance systems-level change,” says Spector.

ELAM Listserv 101

Ever wonder how the ELAM listservs work? The ELAM listservs are emails reserved for special interest and/or affinity groups used for discussion, information-sharing, or job posting announcements within each group. Our listservs allow for open dialogues where members can reply to each other, creating a community forum.

You can always find the most up-to-date listserv communities listed in The Edge (see below).

Here is how they work:

Subscribe to a listserv: You can subscribe to one or more listservs by emailing Joyce Collins at jml575@drexel.edu and she will add you to your requested list(s). Once you have been subscribed, you should receive a confirmation email that provides the specific email address for the requested listserv.

For example: If you’ve just been subscribed to the Dermatology listserv, you will receive a confirmation email with the email address: DERMATOLOGY-ELUM@LISTS.DREXEL.EDU Only those who are subscribers of this list can send and receive emails to the group.

Email your group: You’ll use the email sent to you to reach everyone else in that group, and then members can reply to just you or reply all to the whole group depending on what you’d like to communicate with the everyone.

Reply all courtesy note: If your response only concerns a few individuals, consider sending a separate email to them instead of using reply all.

The Last Word

Fortune, February 6, 2024:

Working fathers are the new target of microaggressions–and they are worried they could be getting ‘daddy tracked’

Today, as different ways of working collide, men who want to be full parents are facing the type of discrimination at work that working moms have dealt with for decades. Some men worry these comments could be a sign they are “getting daddy tracked,” while others reject the phrases as microaggressions.
