AMSPDC: Special Viewing of Suffs to Benefit an Initiative to Support Children’s Health and Wellbeing

In an effort to bring greater attention to the AMSPDC Workforce Initiative and raise funds to support our drive to optimize children’s health and wellbeing, Sallie Permar, MD, PhD (ELAM ’19) and colleagues at NY Presbyterian Hospital have arranged for a special viewing of Suffs. We are pleased that other NYC chairs have joined Sallie/Weill Cornell as hosts which include: Jordan Orange, Columbia; Michael Cabana, Montefiore; Dr. Lisa Satlin, Mt. Sinai; and Dr. Catherine Manno, NYU.

This remarkable, Tony-award winning musical celebrates the courageous women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote, highlighting the ongoing struggle for equality that continues to shape our society. While we celebrate these achievements, it’s important to remember that children do not have a vote or a voice in our political system. The viewing of Suffs will be followed by a panel discussion on how the themes of Suffs resonate with our mission to protect and promote the health and rights of children, ensuring that their needs are heard even when they cannot speak for themselves. We encourage as many AMSPDC members as possible to attend this event.

Event Details:

Date: Tuesday, October 29, 2024

Time: 7:00PM

Location: Music Box Theater, 239 W 45th Street, New York, NY 10036

Caltech’s latest STEM breakthrough: Most of its new students are women

In a milestone breakthrough, more than half of Caltech’s incoming undergraduate class in the fall will be women for the first time in its 133-year history. The class of 113 women and 109 men comes 50 years after Caltech graduated its first class of undergraduate women, who were admitted in 1970.
