The Mid-Career Leadership Accelerator Program, for recently promoted associate professors, is a six-month experience designed to cultivate leadership excellence in academic medicine. Amanda Termuhlen, MD (ELAM '10), is the program director.
This transformative program is tailored to support faculty navigating the pivotal transition into mid-career leadership roles. Participants will engage in six interactive webinars and six group coaching sessions. Each webinar is focused on essential leadership competencies such as developing an effective network, career advancement, developing and supporting others, conflict management, working in teams, and financial literacy. The webinars are presented by renowned coaches and experts in academic medicine to help faculty navigate mid-career dynamics. In addition to the webinars, the group coaching experience fosters peer connection, accountability and promotes deeper learning.

Eva Aagaard, MD (ELAM ‘15), has been named WashU Medicine’s vice dean for education and will continue her university role as vice chancellor for medical education, effective November 1, 2025.
Irina Burd, MD, PhD (ELAM ‘24), was named president of the Society for Reproductive Investigation.
CORRECTION: April O. Buchanan, MD, FAAP (ELAM ‘23), has been named senior associate dean for Medical Education at Emory University School of Medicine, effective January 1, 2026. The October 23, 2025 issue of the Edge listed the incorrect name and the ELAM team apologizes for this oversight.
Rebecca Dutch, PhD (ELAM ‘21), and Karen Wilson, MD, MPH (ELAM ‘18), were featured in a AAMCtoday video titled “What Capitol Hill Needs to Hear About Medical Research,” where they talk about the impact NIH-funded research has on the health and well-being of our nation.

ABEM encourages applications from across the Emergency Medicine community. The application window is open now until November 25, 2025.
The ABEM Board of Directors (BOD) is a working Board. Directors can expect to spend 50 days or more per year participating in ABEM travel, activities, and other commitments. Some activities include but are not limited to attending two in-person BOD and committee meetings of up to one week each in duration, virtual committee meetings, serving as an item writer, and participating as an oral examiner.
Newly elected Directors will be expected to attend the New Director Orientation, to be held at the ABEM office in East Lansing, Michigan, from April 27 to 29, 2026.
