Hello Families,
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the re-opening survey. We would also like to acknowledge all of your efforts to remain connected with each other and with the education staff through classroom Zoom calls, the zoom “Dance Party’s”, phone calls and emails. As partners with all of you in your child’s development and learning, we are excited to continue this journey with each child and family; even those of you who are moving onto primary school.
We are excited to be able to open in July! We will be sharing our re-opening plan as soon as the University permits. We would like to assure everyone that we have partnered with many local, state and national health and education organizations to create a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for children, families and staff. Please remember, the teaching staff at the ELC is unique in the field of Early Care and Education, as they have shown time and time again during these unprecedented times, they are highly educated and skilled. Additionally, the leadership of the ELC also share these unique qualifiers. I share this to assure you; we believe, just as before the suspension, will be re-opening with the highest quality of both health, safety and educational standards.
We have many new and exciting ideas for all the children and families of the ELC and cannot wait to see you back in our wonderful learning space!

PAWS Summer Reading Challenge
|
The PAWS for Reading program in schools and libraries has long been a leader in literacy support. But with stay-at-home orders and physical distancing measures in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, our in-person reading visits at schools and libraries aren’t an option right now. At the same time, we know that this disruption has created an even greater need for literacy support.
PAWS has created a fun, free Summer Reading Challenge. To participate, you can register and pledge
to read 20 minutes a day between June 1st and August 31st. Once you register, you will be directed to program materials to get you started and keep you motivated.

Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education (DiAE) presents Delaware Wolf Trap (DWT) family workshops:
Artist in YOUR Residence – A Series of Virtual Learning Activities
|
Join Delaware Wolf Trap with one of our amazing Wolf Trap teaching artists (TA) for a series of fun family activities focused on literacy and/or math skills! Your TA will lead children and their families on a Wolf Trap lesson with movement, music or imaginative play. You will receive more information regarding any household props that may be used after registration. This program is best suited for children ages 3-5 and their families.
What is Delaware Wolf Trap (DWT)?
The DWT residency is a partnership between a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist and an early childhood educator to provide professional development for teachers while helping children learn through active participation. Classroom experiences in a DWT residency focuses on performing arts-integrated strategies to promote literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) development that teachers can use to foster young children’s learning and development. Classroom experiences in the residency will support early childhood curriculum standards and outcomes.

Respond to the 2020 U.S. Census
|
The 2020 U.S. Census is well under way. Federal spending programs rely on information derived from the census to guide the distribution of funds to states, cities, counties, and households. The funds help communities provide services, including those that benefit children, such as Head Start, special education, and afterschool programs; school lunch assistance; children’s health insurance; child care; and housing support.
Parents and families can respond to the census by completing the questionnaire on line, by phone, or by mail
