FROM DIANA, ELC DIRECTOR

ELC Families,

I would like everyone reading this message to take a moment, pause, and feel the genuine thankfulness all of us at the Early Learning Center have for your commitment and support of the program as always, but especially through the late summer months.

We as a staff of the ELC continue to hold each other accountable and committed to the COVID-19 health, safety, and education plan as we prepare to enter our fall programming.

For new families, we are very excited you have joined the ELC family and look forward to partnering with you as we guide the growth, development and learning of your child/children. Please know, we encourage questions as well as comments in support of the development of the program as well as how we can best partner in support of your family and child. If you are seeking more information about our COVID-19 health and safety protocols, please visit our website or reach out to one of our Directors.

Please know that as we begin fall programming, we are prepared for some of the changes your child/family may experience. New classrooms, new routines, new friendships. Our educators are preparing for some of these transitions and changes. Please know we take additional time during our PD days to share developmental information to support your child’s progression. We continue to have smaller ratio’s due to Delaware’s Licensing mandates during COVID-19 but our Curriculum and Assessment goals have not changed. Many of the professional development goals we began pre COVID continue such as re-imaging our outdoor environment and implementing the Anti-Bias Curriculum; we will be sharing our learning with you through virtual platforms this year, stay tuned for great things!

During the beginning of this school year, we will be welcoming back our Big Kid’s, formally known as “Campers”, but now returning as Scholars, this includes many of our preschool friends who are making the transition to kindergarten.

Families have asked, “How can school-age children be with you, if they are not able to go to their respective schools?”  One important aspect is the regulated group size and our building configuration. Both aspects provide the opportunity to allow the ELC to continue to keep families together and support our continuity of care philosophy. Most important, families can be assured the teachers at the ELC are degreed educators who have a wealth of experience to be able to support, facilitate and collaborate with all stakeholders in the best interest of each child (this is true from infant to school-age).

In closing, we are so fortunate to have partnerships with the University, local school districts and other community stakeholders; allowing us to grow in our community of learners.

With Joy,
