Importance of Play in Early Childhood Education

If you ask your child, "What did you do at school today?" and they respond with, "I played," that is actually a good thing. Children do have a lot of play time while they are at school, but we believe that there is a lot to discover when kids are playing.

Ten things every parent should know about play:

  1. Children learn through their play.
  2. Play is healthy.
  3. Play reduces stress.
  4. Play is more than meets the eye.
  5. Make time for play.
  6. Play and learning go hand-in-hand.
  7. Play outside.
  8. There’s a lot to learn about play.
  9. Trust your own playful instincts.
  10. Play is a child’s context for learning.

Please review 10 Things Every Parent Should Know About Play from the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for more detailed descriptions of the above points.

Franklin Street Landscaping Update

We are excited to announce that our west-side landscaping project has officially received all necessary permits and will begin on October 10th. The work will take place along Franklin Street, from Miss Feldman's 4th Grade classroom to Exposition, and is expected to be completed within three weeks. This project has been generously funded by a donor in the St. John's community.

Please note that this area may be largely inaccessible during the project. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we enhance our campus!

No Panther Paws Newsletter will be sent out next week because it is such a short week.

Remember to lock your car!

(Even if you are only coming in for a couple minutes)

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

1 Corinthians 10:13

Staff Spotlight

Miss Kadie - Director of Children's Ministry

I have been in Children's Ministry since 2013 and have worked at St. John's since 2015. My degree is in Christian Education from Concordia University in Austin, Texas. I also have many certifications in Early Childhood Development, Social Emotional Learning, and Character Development. I am the current Director of Children's Ministry here at St. John's and lead our kid's church called SJKidz every Sunday morning. I also partner with our school by leading devotions, chapels, and trying to create more connection between the church and the school.

In my personal life, I am engaged to a young man who serves in the Navy and we are getting married March 1st, 2025. I enjoy the outdoors, paddle boarding, disc-golfing, and running around Wash Park.

I love the community here at St. John's and have always felt at home here. Jesus is at the center of what we teach to our students, and I have been so grateful to have been able to be a part of it for the last 8 years.

The ELC will be closing at 4:30pm on Friday, October 18th, so all our families and teachers can attend the event.

If you would like to volunteer to help the ELC team with running the activities for our little ones at the Fall Fest, please sign-up here, or send an email to Mrs. Emilie.

The purpose of Watch D.O.G.S. at St John's School is:

  1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
  2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and increase student welfare.
  3. To help fathers get an inside peek at our school and their child's education.

We invite you to join up for this wonderful opportunity to serve the School.
