Importance of Play in Early Childhood Education
If you ask your child, "What did you do at school today?" and they respond with, "I played," that is actually a good thing. Children do have a lot of play time while they are at school, but we believe that there is a lot to discover when kids are playing.
Ten things every parent should know about play:
- Children learn through their play.
- Play is healthy.
- Play reduces stress.
- Play is more than meets the eye.
- Make time for play.
- Play and learning go hand-in-hand.
- Play outside.
- There’s a lot to learn about play.
- Trust your own playful instincts.
- Play is a child’s context for learning.
Please review 10 Things Every Parent Should Know About Play from the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for more detailed descriptions of the above points.
Franklin Street Landscaping Update
We are excited to announce that our west-side landscaping project has officially received all necessary permits and will begin on October 10th. The work will take place along Franklin Street, from Miss Feldman's 4th Grade classroom to Exposition, and is expected to be completed within three weeks. This project has been generously funded by a donor in the St. John's community.
Please note that this area may be largely inaccessible during the project. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we enhance our campus!
No Panther Paws Newsletter will be sent out next week because it is such a short week.
