Message from Ms. Julie - God's Blessings Ms. Sheri
We are having a card shower to bless Ms. Sheri with kind words and gratitude that she will be able to read in the weeks ahead and know that we will be praying for her and holding her in our hearts. She has been such a blessing and we want to give you the opportunity to share your thanks as well. Please bring in your cards and give them to your child's teacher. We will collect them and present them to Sheri on her last day, next Friday, September 16th. Thank you very much!

How to Help Your Child Stop Whining

There are few behaviors that are more frustrating to parents than whining. Yet for children, whining can be a quick and easy way to get a parent’s full attention. Children whine when they feel overwhelmed by an emotion or desire and do not have the vocabulary to express their feelings.
They also might whine when they do not have the skills to complete a task or because they feel tired, hungry, powerless, or lonely. Simply put, children whine to ask for help.
You can help your child figure out WHY he is whining and help him to find a better way to communicate.
Your child will continue to whine until you teach him a new skill. When you give into his whine for candy at the check-out counter, you are teaching him that his whining behavior is working, and he should use it again. When you take away your son’s favorite toy because he won’t stop whining, you increase his feelings of insecurity and actually also increase the likelihood that he will whine more often. Instead, you can teach him to use his words to tell you about his feelings and, together, you can come up with a way to solve his problem.

"The St John's Journey Wall"

We're excited to open "The St John's Journey Wall" in early September, which is located on the right hand side of the entrance hallway (near the ELC entrance). Each month, one student's work will be selected from each grade and proudly displayed in our gallery. You'll see work from our youngest children in ELC all the way to our leaders in 8th Grade, which paints a lovely picture of how St John students grow and develop during their time here.

We'll let you know each month when a new group of work is on display, so that you can drop in and admire the wonderful work taking place all across the school.

Women's Huddle
Join me on Thursday mornings at 8:15am starting August 25! This group consists of current moms and moms of students who have graduated from St. John's. We meet in a room across from the Church Office from 8:15-9:15am. We study God's Word in a variety of ways - book study, sermon series study, prayer and life application. This is a great way to get connected and have a group of women who support each other through our day-to-day life. Contact Carolyn Otte at [email protected] for more information!

Join us for the PTO Kickoff Meeting!

This year we are offering two different times for our annual PTO kickoff meeting. Please meet us in the SJ Community Room on September 13th at 8:30am OR September 14th at 6pm. We will review all the events we have planned throughout the year, discuss volunteer opportunities, and assign Classroom Ambassadors. Get to know other parents and find out how you can support the SJ Staff.
