Joe Becker, MD, an Air Force Officer who served in Afghanistan, Iraq and other not-so-friendly places, was deployed on Saturday on a mission to rescue a young man who sustained a severe head injury on a ship hundreds of miles off the California coast. The Air Force Team had to refuel 3 times mid-air to reach the vessel, where Dr. Becker took care of the young man. After returning stateside, Dr. Becker went to the ED at 2:30am to take over from Dan Imler, who had volunteered to cover his P3 shift. Berman Award for Excellence in an Introductory Seminar for her project “Women in Emergency Medicine” ( listen here), completed in Mike Gisondi’s class "Does Social Media Make Better Physicians?"
