March 2019
President Corner
Dear members,

With spring around the corner, it will soon be May and time for all of us to meet at EV2019VĖ in Quebec City. A full and varied program is online offering enriching presentations, trade show and networking opportunities including a spot in the trade show for startup companies. Be sure not to miss the opportunity to meet your colleagues in historic Quebec City. I urge you to book now for preferred rates and assured accommodation.

We are encouraged by the number of members that have expressed an interest in joining our committees and/or willing to serve as members of the board.  Also pleased that most committee members are willing to continue serving.  We are busy preparing documents that will set all of this in motion for board approval.

These are exciting times for EV developments with more models being introduced by the automotive sector and with continuous growth in charging infrastructure.
As required, I spend a considerable amount of time on the phone connecting with existing and potential new members. I am encouraged by the expressions of support I receive and their view of EMC as a 'much needed organization' that brings all key stakeholders together.

In the meantime, the search for a new President and CEO is underway and the search consultant is busy analyzing the responses received.

EVs are key to Canada's auto industry
A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives on Canada's auto industry suggests its survival will be dependent on government backing for electric vehicles and driverless cars.

Support is necessary to ensure Canada can be part of the ongoing global shift to EVs. The report finds that while Canada has a skilled and experienced labour force to entice EV makers, it won't be enough without a strong market in which to sell them.
