ARIZONA FUN FACTS

The saguaro cactus is just one of 51 species of cactus that are native to Arizona, but saguaros can only grow in the lush Sonoran Desert of Arizona, Mexico, and a small part of southeastern California.

Saguaros can reach over 50 feet tall, and can grow as many as 50 arms! But this takes lots and lots of time, since the saguaro only grows about a foot a year. It won't even grow an arm until it is at least 50 years old. Because of the saguaro's time consuming natural growth, it is illegal to damage or harm a saguaro in the state of Arizona.

And in case you didn't know... Look, but don't touch the saguaro! They are covered in extremely sharp spines which absorb sunlight and catch rainwater, but are as sharp and strong as steel needles.
