The EMC Society's Distinguished Lecturer (DL) Program provides speakers on various aspects of electromagnetic compatibility for EMC Society chapter meetings and similar functions. Since we have been unable to schedule lectures at in-person chapter meetings, we are providing an opportunity to learn virtually from our experts on their respective topics of interest.
High-Frequency EMC Design Verification through EM Simulations and Measurements in a Reverberation Chamber
Presentation Title:
High-Frequency EMC Design Verification through EM Simulations and Measurements in a Reverberation Chamber

Speaker: Alpesh Bhobe, Cisco Systems, Inc, San Jose, CA, USA

Abstract: This presentation will cover three-dimensional (3D) EM simulation techniques to analyze radiation characteristics of various electrical and mechanical components used on printed circuit board (PCB) and electronic chassis. The talk will cover several examples such as optical connectors (SFP+, QSFP, etc.), “special” EMI features on a chassis, heat sinks, air-vent structure as well as gasket and absorbing materials that are verified in simulation and measurements from 1-40 GHz.
Dr. Alpesh U. Bhobe is a Sr. Manager at CISCO Systems in San Jose, California. He is highly experienced and an accomplished professional providing leadership and vision on design for EMC and equipment grounding for various high-end routers and switches at Cisco Systems. He has a proven record of developing innovative 3D-EM simulation and measurement methodologies to analyze and improve component level EMI performance as well as system level transient phenomenon by improving localized and system grounding. He developed guidelines of EMI mitigation techniques and optimized the performance of EMI solution devices based on effective grounding principles. He has expert knowledge and insights on various numerical methods of EMs, theory and principles of grounding and configurations, EMI shielding, radiated and conducted emissions of analog and digital circuits, ESD, filtering and transient suppression, common-mode coupling, RF absorbing, EMC for PCB, switching power supplies, I/O connectors and cable assemblies. He obtained his MASc and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (2003) from University of Colorado at Boulder and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electrical Engineering from University of Mumbai, India.
All lectures are presented live and the DLs will be available for live Q&A.
