TRiO Supports Students through the Food Pantry and Scholarships
|

TRiO Student Support Services is proud to announce that the Student Food Pantry has had some great support this spring thanks in part to private donors from across the state. Recently, they were also gifted $2,400 from Good Shepard Food Bank, a donation that will make a huge difference for students who rely on the food pantry regularly. This gift will allow TRiO to keep the food pantry fully stocked with essential, in-demand items.
Thank you Good Shepard for supporting the EMCC Student Food Pantry!
If you are interested in making a donation to the Student Food Pantry so that they may continue their great work, visit the page and select "Food Pantry" in the drop-down menu.
TRiO is also proud to announce that they have recently dispersed $11,774 in scholarship to 16 different TRiO students. Students received scholarship amounts ranging from $654 to $841.
These students will be recognized at their National TRiO Day Celebration taking place today at noon. Visit the TRiO Facebook page for more information on the event and to learn more about how to join!

Criminal Justice Program Chair Appointed as Instructor at Maine Criminal Justice Academy
|
|
Chair of the Criminal Justice Program, Cornel Plebani, was recently appointed as an instructor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. This comes as a particular honor for Plebani because he is a civilian instructor. Civilians only make up 10% of instructors at the Academy, and Plebani says he is honored to be a part of that number.
This opportunity will mean that Plebani is in an instructional role for every single certified full-time law enforcement officer in Maine.
For EMCC Criminal Justice students, it means that they have access to an instructor with first-hand knowledge of courses at the Academy and a resource with invaluable advice for those interested in a law enforcement career.

Students in the Diesel, Truck, & Heavy Equipment Program took their State of Maine Inspection tests right before the break and did exceptionally well. The test consists of six different exams totaling 250 questions. These tests were Administration, Enhanced Inspection, and Classes A, B, C, and D. According to faculty, there were even a few near-perfect scores.
Great work students!

Meet a Current EMCC Student
|
|
|
My name is Evan, and I am in my second semester of the Criminal Justice Program at EMCC. I am currently working as a Corrections Officer at Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston, Maine.
Through my early stages at EMCC, I have learned many things, especially the value of integrity. Even with remote learning, the teaching style from Professor Plebani and the plethora of guest speakers have made the classes extremely informational and interactive.
The challenges from my first few courses at EMCC have prepared me for the challenges I now have to face in my job. I would recommend this program to anyone who is wanting to pursue a career in any law enforcement field.
