Veterans Day Program at Chisholm Trail High School prior to COVID-19.
Veterans Day is on Wednesday, November 11. This day honors all those individuals who have served in the United States military, and EMS ISD campuses are planning various ways to say thank you, from sending cards to holding virtual parades. Here are four ways you can take a few moments to honor a veteran next week:
-
Talk about what it means to serve in the military with your children. Let your child know that becoming a soldier requires great sacrifice. Military men and women risk their lives for their country, spend weeks or months away from family on deployment or for training, and move throughout the world to different posts or bases. Being a soldier also means that you could be called on to deploy to another country at a moment’s notice if asked.
-
Send thank-you cards to local VA hospitals. Cards are appreciated and enjoyed by veterans. Because of privacy issues, personalized cards are not possible, so it is best to simply address them to "Dear Veteran" and mail to:
VA North Texas Health Care System
ATTN: Voluntary Service (MAILCODE: 135)
4500 South Lancaster Road
Dallas, Texas 75216
-
Find a veteran and thank them. Take a moment to text, call, or email a veteran you know. Not sure what to say? Here's an idea: I am so proud to know you. You have given so much in service of this country, and I thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made.
-
Share a veteran’s story on social media. Snap a photo of a veteran you know and share his or her story on social media. Ask your veteran these questions and share their answers: When did you enter the military? Where are some of locations you were stationed? Did you serve in any wars? What were your job responsibilities as a soldier?
Being a veteran requires great sacrifice. EMS ISD is grateful for the service of our military personnel and encourages our #EMScommUNITY to take a moment next week to say thanks.
