Greetings EMWSL Members
,
I hope this note finds you all well as we are about to have a break in our fall schedule for Columbus Day weekend. We are off to a good start after a few hiccups right before the season. I appreciate all the teams being flexible and working with us as we had to juggle schedules at the last minute due to a few teams dropping at the last minute. We will continue to work with teams to avoid this in the future and for managers to evaluate fully before a season is kicking off. All divisions are going strong and I wish you all well and for good weather as the fall progresses.
New website
I would like to thank Kate Painter who spearheaded our new EMWSL league website as well as the support and work of our board as we fine tuned it prior to its launch. I appreciate everyone’s patience as we have worked hard to fine tune the site and make it as user friendly for our members and prospective new players. Please let Kate and I know if you have any ideas or questions about the site. We encourage you to work on your team section so new players know who you are, where you play, team make up, etc. It also behooves team managers to set up your email and check in to it every few days so you know if new players are looking to join your team! Registration is open all season in fall and spring so if you are in need of players stay active and update your team sites soon. We have had more new players join EMWSL in three months, than we usually do in an entire year.
Summer Season Wrap
Congratulations to our summer season champions Dynamis (Div 1), Greater Boston Kickbacks (Div 2), and Bandits (Div 3). Weather at the end of the season affected our playoff games being delayed but thanks to the teams, Referees and Board working hard to rebook the games we completed the season. The finals were all very close games and showcased the great soccer of all our divisions. Kudos to the runners up in each Division: Sidekicks ( Div 1), Classic Crush (Div2), and Haverhill (D3).
NWSL Watch Party
A week ago Gillette Stadium and the Revolution hosted a NWSL Championship Watch Party in the Putnam Club. Those who attended the watch party then had Club level seats for the Revolution game that followed. It was great to see women’s soccer on the big screen TV’s in the Club and showcasing some of the best NWSL players. We hope to continue to work with the Revolution to promote women’s soccer as much as possible.
SoccerFest 2019
A number of us have been waiting since July to hear who/where the SoccerFest 2019 Tournament will be hosted. The host state and location was finally released and I am happy to say that the host state is our very own, Massachusetts!!! The Soccerfest will be next July at the Mass Soccer Complex in Lancaster MA. This is a great tournament that celebrated its 20
th
Anniversary last summer and Lancaster last hosted in 2009 and 2010. This tournament is a lot of fun and has Divisions up to 65 years old on the women’s and 70 on the men’s side. Mass women have had a strong presence each year and we took home 3 of the championships 2 years ago in Nashville Tennessee. I myself played when the games were in Lancaster and then rejoined two years ago on Nashville and the beautiful backdrop last year in Bellingham Washington. Teams from all over the country come to this tournament so we are hoping for as many Mass teams to take part. It would be great to sweep all the age brackets with Mass based teams as we have very talented and passionate soccer players. We have some really great teams in EMWSL so let’s show the rest of the country where soccer is super strong and bring home the championships! The dates for the tournament is 10-14 July 2019 and team registration opened yesterday so I will see you there!
Enjoy the rest of your fall season and let’s have fun playing good soccer! As always if you have any ideas or questions please let us know!!
Cheers!
Dee Woolley,
President, EMWSL
