After 16 years of training upholstery and soft furnishings students at Wendy Shorter Interiors, I have decided to retire at the end of August. I have had an amazing time, have met and taught some wonderful people who have produced some fabulous work.
Although I am retiring the training centre is not closing, and it will be business as usual as Liz Alsop is taking over the business. Liz has been teaching the AMUSF upholstery courses for me since 2010 and I delighted that Liz and her business partner, Sari Margossian, will be taking over. I am sure that the high standards we have achieved over the years will continue in their careful and considered hands, and I wish them every success for the future. I am sure the training centre will go from strength to strength.

In due course, Liz will be changing the name of the Company to the St. Albans Upholstery School.
The training will continue to be delivered by Liz, Sari, Taryn and Sarah running all the courses.
Congratulations to the 2022 Year Group
On Saturday 23rd July we celebrated the achievements of this year's students, Class of 2022, with our usual Summer Show. Congratulations to all our students who produced some amazing results.

Congratulations must also go to Katie Fitzjohn who has been shortlisted for a textiles prize sponsored by Sanderson Design Group, at the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition that will be held on Thursday 12th October at the Furniture Makers Hall and the Dutch Church, Austin Friars, London, EC2N 2HE between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Katie has upholstered her traditional nursing chair using old linen tables cloths that she has patchworked together. She also made her own trimming.

Our day and evening upholstery leisure classes are now full, but we have a new program of short courses starting in October:
Victoria Rutter of Louis Moreau London is looking for some help with a large project she is working on. This is a short term contract 2/3 days a week for 1-3 months mainly making cushions but you will also get experience of quilting as well. Starting in August until November
Although I am retiring from my business, I am not retiring from the work that I do as Director of Training for the AMUSF nor the Worshipful Company of Upholders. I will continue to support Liz and Sari through a smooth transition of the business, and I will continue to deliver the short curtain and roman blind courses.
I wish the girls every success for the future and I look forward to seeing them and the business grow and develop.
