Greetings!
For many years, The Episcopal Network for Economic Justice (ENEJ) has been part of The Consultation, a body made up of several organizations working to together to promote social justice advocacy in the Episcopal Church. ENEJ also creates issue papers, so those voting at General Convention are informed about how resolutions can affect future policy.
One of the important things The Consultation does is have a presence at General Convention and we are making plans to do this once again for Convention in Baltimore July 7 – 14, 2022. Our General Convention presence includes having a booth where member organizations will display materials and have people available to answer questions and stir up interest in their work.
The Consultation also organizes a lunchtime speaker series on various social just issues which in the past has attracted attention among General Convention deputies and visitors. Many of the speakers discuss relevant topics to General Convention, such as current resolutions deputies will be voting on.
We also publish a daily newsletter, Issues, which goes out to all deputies and bishops and gives background on social justice issues before General Convention as well as updates on the progress of any legislation The Consultation’s member organizations is tracking. Issues also endorses candidates to General Convention offices who are like minded in our social justice causes.
ENEJ would like to participate in this work once again. The Consultation has greatly reduced its booth space and reconfigured it to allow sharing of booth personnel among the member organizations. Still, we estimate it will cost ENEJ $3000 - $5000 for our portion of the cost for the booth space and furnishings and $1500 to support a representative to help staff the booth and to be involved in other activities of the Consultation.
We believe that ENEJ’s participation in General Convention is important and for that reason we are asking for your help in two ways. First, we would like to know of all ENEJ members who are also serving as deputies. This will assist us in more easily responding to legislation as it makes its way through the General Convention pipeline.
Second, we ask you to consider a special donation to ENEJ to help defray our costs to be at General Convention. Your generosity has enabled us to make this happen in past years and we would greatly appreciate your help once again.
