Rehearsals are well underway for our third show of the season, Portia's Julius Caesar ! We visited rehearsal this past week to capture the magic that is going on in creating this unapologetically feminist take on Shakespeare’s classic account of political upheaval. Portia's Julius Caesar opens November 15th so make sure you grab your tickets now.

Those contacted for auditions will be seen the week beginning December 1, with callbacks taking place on December 8. Only those contacted for an audition will be seen. Artists of all ethnic, cultural, sexual and gender identities are strongly encouraged to submit.

Hip Hop 101 Café – Hip Hop Through An Indigenous Lens

Join Hart House and First Nations House for this Hip Hop 101 Café – Hip Hop Through An Indigenous Lens as we engage in conversation with a pioneer on the Indigenous hip hop scene -- MC Jeremiah Manitopyes, aka Drezus.

When: Thurs., Oct. 31 | 12:15 –1:15 pm

Where: Hart House, Map Room

Hip Hop 101 Café is a space created for students to come together and explore how hip hop infuses all parts of our everyday culture.

October Alumni - Mark Selby

Mark Selby is currently a TV producer and theatre musical director/accompanist. As a student, Mark performed in productions, then moved into student director positions, then came back as an alumnus to direct the remount of Jerry Springer-The Opera and Toronto premiere of High Fidelity .

When we asked Mark about the importance of Hart House Theatre he said:

"As a training ground, as a skills development centre, and as a gathering place, Hart House Theatre in an important, vital, and instrumental organization for anyone who loves the arts. Hart House Theatre gives you a home in the middle of a large urban campus, at a theatre that is the geographical and cultural epicentre of the University of Toronto."

We're always happy to brag about the work our alum and friends are doing around the city. Tonight, the brilliant Devon Healey (Playwright), Nate Bitton (Fight Director and Performer) and Saphire Demitro (Performer) are participating in a Disabilities Studies Performance Event at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

What: Precarious Perception

Where: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre - Accessible Venue

Through theatre and drama, this event engages disability representation, in particular blindness, as a performance in everyday life. Blind authors and scholars, Dr. Devon Healey and Dr. Rod Michalko bring their most recent works to life through 2 dramatic readings. Infused with jazz and featuring local talent this one night only performance-event will reflect on how the life of blindness is one lived in relation to the blind self, the sighted world and the street.Sponsored by New College at the University of Toronto.
