MEET THE STUDENT SENATE:

Student Senate Secretary

Mya McCray (she/her)

from Old Town, ME

Medical Office Technology

Why Student Senate?: As a member of the ResLife staff I interact with a lot of on campus students but I wanted to become more involved on campus and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I want to have a positive impact on the college and being the secretary of Student Senate is helping me do that.

What is your favorite thing about EMCC?: My favorite thing about EMCC is the community. I would never have been able to achieve half the things I have in my time here if it wasn’t for the faculty/staff/students always willing to help. The community here is unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of before.

Student Senate update courtsey of Secretary Mya:

If you haven’t been able to attend our senate meetings this semester; the officers have been made aware of issues students are facing when they have to purchase access to an external learning platform (Connect, MyMathLab, Cingage, etc.) and not being made aware of the extra cost in advance, and in some cases, not being shown how to use them. We have met with Dr. Liz True, Vice President & Dean of Students and Dr. Lynn Hunter, Dean of Academic Affairs to address these concerns and advocate for more transparency and more support for students using external learning platforms.

We have been making progress with the conversations we've had thus far, but as we continue thits work, we want to hear from those who are not able to attend our weekly meetings to voice their feedback, questions, and concerns.

If you have any experiences/feedback that you would like to share with use s regarding external learning platforms, please email us: studentsenate@emcc.edu.
